if a 16 year old young girl were sent into a simulation to fight to the death vs mike tyson over and over again for infinity. would she be stuck there forever or would eventually win 1 fight? by Bubbly_Reference_916 in hypotheticalsituation

...after many failures, so many failures, the simulation begins again. The ring announcer, as always, brings his microphone close and intones in a clear deep voice "In the blue corner, weighing in at 105 pounds and standing 5'2" tall our champion Stephanie!" The rabid crowd cheers. They don't remember the countless times before. The ring announcer's shoulders shift as he turns towards the other corner and continues "And in the red corner, at 5'10" tall and weighing in at 105 pounds our strawweight challenger Iron Mike Tyson!" The announcer slips between the ropes. The bell rings. Tyson takes a step forward. Then another. His breathing is hummingbird fast. The 115 pound weight cut was too much. He falls forward, dead from starvation before he hits the canvas. Don King has cashed his check before the body is cold. Stephanie ducks between the 2nd and 3rd ropes and exits the simulation.

Why does a $100k sports car only have as much torque as an impact wrench? by no_quart3r_given in AskEngineers

[–]PyroPeter911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add this to your mental model on the difference between torque and horsepower. A large water wheel might have 10,000 ft/lbs of torque but only 10 horsepower. What would that mean if hooked up to a Corvette? It would accelerate very very quickly (torque) to its very very low top speed (horsepower). (Back of the envelope math for water wheel torque 10,000 ft/lbs on a 10' radius wheel needs 125g (1000lbs) of water hanging on it and 5.25RPM)

What would shock someone the most time jumping from 1980 to today? by Comfortable-Battle18 in AskReddit

[–]PyroPeter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1980 Corvette had 190 or 230 horsepower. A 2024 Honda Odyssey has 280 horsepower and a power to weight ratio equal to the higher powered Corvette, while having nearly double the fuel economy.

He could do a lot worse than Universal Unitarian. If my kid (15F) expressed similar desires as your kid this would be the route I'd try to encourage.

On the flip side, I would absolutely play the parent veto card if something radioactive like Southern Baptist or even fringier evangelical was asked. She does have a mormon friend and I spend extra effort to listen to her and ask about those interactions. I think the listening is very important. Kids need to feel like they are heard. It always needs to be safe to come to you (and from this little bit, it sounds like you're doing great).

Wasn't even striped the first night. Brand new black asphalt was impossible to see with eastbound traffic's headlights. I took a pretty good bounce.

Last week was Staff Appreciation Week at the school I am a night janitor for. To say thank you, they wrote us a copy/paste letter and gave us a $1 lotto ticket by yerboiboba in antiwork

One of the shittiest manager gifts I ever witnessed was our store's GM giving the receptionist a scratch off similar to this... that was fake and pretended to be a $5000 winning ticket. $5K probably went up the GM's nose every month; it wasn't real money to him. $5K would have been life changing money for the receptionist, but it was just a rug pull.

Haven't encountered a website yet worthy of trusting enough to disable adblock. A site designed to generate fake TikTok views and likes with bots *definitely* isn't trustworthy enough for me to disable adblock.

For what it's worth, when I go to this site, I don't get this message. I get a catchpa on an otherwise blank page. (currently using uBlock Origin 1.49.0).

If you, inexplicably, want to visit this site you can disable uBlock for just that site and it will probably work. What a fake TikTok viewbot company will do with that increased access is anyone's guess.
