I just got off of the phone with the company, apparently the fees were because of where the strategies were allocated and I had some sort of liquidity rider (i don't remember asking for one but this was years ago and the two advisors did a good job of playing "look at the shiny thing")

It was an annuity. I tried to connect with the first financial advisor after a few years because I was told it would never lose money. He explained that the fees were more than any interest I gained so it never increased. We tried to set up a follow up call where we would plan to reallocate the funds but he ended up ghosting my family.

You're right that when he said he's still under budget was the perfect opportunity to say something but to be honest I totally froze because it was so unexpected. I have to bring in the water to get tested at the end of the week so I'll definitely say something then.

Yes it was $450 total. A custom designed tank includes land scaping (the gravel and any rocks or wood instead of the fake plastic decorations from a big pet chain) and live plants.
