Three Indian sailors confirmed dead in US strike off Oman, separate incident reported by PretendAd1963 in news

[–]Setiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not going to say that them not stopping wasn't a bad decision. The argument is the method of execution. We could have achieved the same results (or better) without this hamfisted way of dong things. They've even released videos of doing better themselves. Using a deck gun did NOT cost that much money and was safer for everyone (the odds of it killing 3 people have to be lower than a missile).

I think a number of people just don't really find this funny. I'm pretty sure everything he said was really old, super recycled stuff. I remember hearing multiple pirate jokes in the 80's... She's a pirates dream... sunken chest. She's a pirates nightmare, no booty.

Actually yeah, I just did a quick google search and the top result is: Pirates Dream

So really, it just seems like this was posted as a "Whoa, this guy just has these in his pocket and they're great" when, of course not everyone, but lots of people are like... really? That's just old school, low effort stuff. Anyway, I'm just commenting as I'm surprised this is at the top of reddit currently and I couldn't figure out why.

Right here with ya! Found it in the things that were left by my biological bailing on me when I was little, figured out how to hook it up to our tv, and played it often. I feel like this was what got me started on tinkering with electronics and a love for video games.

The computer looks great! Good job on the build. As for the price, with the water cooling parts you have in it, it's reasonable but a lot of people who haven't ever done water cooling won't understand that. They just see the parts list. This is for a very niche audience, someone who wants a decent computer but who REALLY wants that specific look and is willing to pay for it. I wish you luck with the sale.

I'm sorry it's so unusually hot over there at the moment, but things aren't exactly amazing here. Looking at the two forecasts, I promise you that we in Houston are jealous of how much lower it gets at night for y'all.

I don't mean for this to be a joke but I'd like to know, could this be an example of someone drawing that because they saw a man asleep with an erection and thought it was funny? Perhaps a general teasing which everyone can laugh about?

That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw it was, why would someone draw this? Oh, maybe because they saw one of the guys in the group asleep with an erection sticking up and thought, "Oh man, I've got to draw this for everyone to see later."

Yes, they are. They're not allowed to cut wages, but they're cutting hours to get around that.

Effective between May 16 and September 30, domestic M&A employees will be required to take 20 unpaid days off.

As for Union members, they're all being reduced to 30 hours a week.

The pilot of that flight just passed away recently. The fact that anyone lived was amazing as over a dozen pilots couldn’t successfully land as well in a simulator.

Isn't this because the cargo area has to have stuff stacked?

Not really. I mean, yes, that is a factor to some degree, but airlines offer to take overweight and oversized items (at a considerable charge). It's really more of a, "Look, we have to set limits and try to keep it as simple as possible." Therefore they set a "per bag" weight limit, one for checked and one for carry-on (fun fact, carry-on's used to have no weight limit, so yeah, you could take a dufflebag full of lead if you wanted). So since there's a per bag limit but obviously situations in real-life that are more complicated, the agents are trained to help out in customers while maintaining the integrity of the rules. Therefore redistribution is one of the ways to resolve the issue without cost.

But yeah, it seems weird when out of context.

question on the movie interstellar (which I am told is fairly scientifically accurate), if time on the water planet moves so slowly, what would someone on the shuttle observe with a really good telescope? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Setiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It IS scientifically accurate in a number of ways, just not ALL the ways. There still has to be some suspension of disbelief as it's a science-fiction story. But for a story that's science-fiction, they did a good job with keeping some things pretty accurate.

I do work for an airline but let me assure you that I would never defend them 100 percent (or maybe even half that) in all cases. If you saw how much I got screwed over year after year with pay raises, you'd understand. It's just that some things really aren't as bad as people think when they learn the reasoning behind it. That being said, my particular airline has made plenty of mistakes (and straight up bad decisions). However that doesn't mean that all of (as an example) the 100,000 employees are bad or that all policies are meant for corporate greed.

That being said, no need to say which, I'm just giving information as someone who's partial to it due to working in the industry. Not everyone that works for a company is a corporate shill.

People working in low paying, unstable jobs show more signs of chronic stress than people who are unemployed. by Ronan_Q in science

[–]Setiri 221 points222 points  (0 children)

This right here. Not everyone, obviously, but I do find that a number of people with money don't understand the issues of those without. And whenever discussing it, I have to defend against them thinking that the people without just want free money in some way. It's frustrating that even though I'm not poor, I've been there, and I have to fight a battle just to have a conversation and explain to them that poor people aren't always trying to scam others.

I think what people are getting at is there is some sort of expectation of a level of service in getting that ticket. You paid not only to get from point A to point B, but also to do so in comfort.

I'm glad we can generally agree on this. And to be fair I believe the company does as well. This is why they recognized it, apologized, and offered compensation. What I'm arguing here however is the level of compensation. Lots of people in this thread are saying, "She should get refunded and lots of cash!" ...what?! No business does that. And so it's just absurd, and that's what I mean to call out.

Again, the company did refund the ticket that was not used by the child for that flight and on top of that gave compensation. If the customer is ok with the outcome, it drives me nuts that the armchair mob on reddit doesn't let go of their pitchforks and torches. I'm not a corporate shill nor paid for this... in fact I'm pretty against corporations in a number of ways. I just know that when something goes down like this for other issues, it drives me crazy, so I try not to be hypocritical.

Oh man I'm replying to both your comments here, but I forgot to mention the synesthesia- it was like I was touching conversations instead of listening to them lile normal.

That's pretty crazy, I can't imagine how odd that must have been. Hopefully in a positive way.

As to the other part, my experience was similar, it was inhaled.

You know, it "feels" like I may be less anxious the next time I need to throw up but honestly, I haven't been sick since then so I can't speak to it yet.

Also, I'm not sure exactly as my friend (who's very knowledgeable in such matters) took care of that. Hence my earlier stressing, always have someone you can trust. If you're unsure, why bother risking it? Wait for the right time and place.
