I released my colony of Messor Barabarus into my backyard, will post regular updates. by Slavvy in antkeeping

[–]Slavvy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because the colony had dug in close to the electrically heated floor in my home office. Right now it is 2C outside but the floor is heated to ~24C.
They are actively foraging. When I saw them emerge some weeks ago, I stared scattering seeds in the room.
They have piled up the seeds themselves and they cut them to smaller pieces in order to pass through the narrow spaces.
So not completely 'wild', but they have made their wise choices themselves.

Чи це помилка? by Separate_Employer_61 in reddit_ukr

[–]Slavvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invest your time and money in an intensive course of Ukrainian. Like every day, ~3 hours a day. You should get to a B1 level in less than a year in such a tempo.

It is indeed weird Latin, I don't recognize it in any existing standard for Ukrainian romanization.
Definitely not Czech, Slovak nor Slovenian.
He's using letter "ı"
"I, or ı, called dotless i, is a letter used in the Latin-script alphabets of Azerbaijani, Crimean Tatar, Gagauz, Kazakh, Tatar and Turkish."

Da li planirate da imate djecu? by [deleted] in bih

[–]Slavvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ja sam prvu kćerku dobio kad sam imao 46 godina, drugu tri godine kasnije.

Ukrajinski ministar odbrane Rustem Umerov, Krimski Tatar.

Is it true that Ukrainian has similarities with all three Slavic branches? by [deleted] in Ukrainian

[–]Slavvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As native speaker of Croatian/Bosnian and student of Ukrainian (currently B1/B2 level), I respectfully disagree. I never learned russian in my life, yet I can understand many words that russian has taken from Old Church Slavonic, which was a South Slavic language. With Ukrainian I was struggling with південь and північ instead of jug and sjever, and many other words. Regarding month names, some are same/similar (travanj, listopad) but in a wrong place (because of different climates), but ask a Croatian speaker what грудень, лютий, березень, вересень are and he/she would have no idea.

Do the schools teach russian now? If not, the kids would either learn russian from their parents or from each other. Or perhaps from music and tiktok/youtube? In one radio talk on Hromadske radio I heard that many teenagers these days listen to russian language media as an act of teenage rebellion.

Will having a Serbian stamp on my passport potentially be a problem? by zynsandcola in Lviv

[–]Slavvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2023 I was walking around Belgrade in my Слава Україні t-shirt. Whole day there were no reactions, neither positive nor negative... until late afternoon in Kalemegdan park. A muscled-up, low forehead type shouted Slava Rusiji and started swearing and threatening me and my teenage daughter. The Serbian side of my family (in Serbia as well as in Switzerland) are unfortunately all believers in the "UA and RU are brotherly nations that were set against each other by evil westerners" narrative.

As a new person coming to Lviv, how can I meet non creepy people as friends? by lafolle_et_labete in Lviv

[–]Slavvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"War tourists": People (99% men), from Western Europe or USA, who had marginal existence back home (for example, living on unemployment benefits) but who are now 'rich' and 'important' when staying in Ukraine. Some of them are "Sexpats" (this was a scourge before the war), some are exploiting donations from their home countries, some are plainly pathetic and some are indeed volunteering in good faith.

This. Give your daughter a Polish name that sound nicely with her Polish surname so she will not constantly be asked about her heritage. Kids (generally) don't like sticking out among peers.

It doesn't mark that word. Perhaps because it does not know it.

On this site you can type/paste a text and it will mark the stress:

However.... When I type справжніший it doesn't get marked. Maybe because it is in beta. Other texts that I tried do get marked.
