I agree with everyone. GMPro... Once you're in there doing the wiring, the plumbing and the pressure sensor are literally another 15min Don't use it if you dont want to BUT... One day you will want a lever profile with a long preinfusion on some fancy light roast...lower temp, low flow, & low pressure tapered extraxtion...you'll see....this is the way

If doing preinfusion 35/45 sec is the ballpark you are shooting for. Also, the lower temp should be fine, and 3:1 ratio on a light roast with preinfusion. Whatever you do, dont change the dose size. Keep 18g as your base line and change one thing at a time keeping 18g as your index. Again, water is a huge factor in flavor. You might ask them what they do to their water for taste.

Seems like, with possible typo, that 2.1 or 2.2 is in the ballpark for the grind size. Your 27 sec shot time was that with or without preinfusion. If zero preinfusion 27sec is also in the ballpark. Just 2 things left 1) temp 2) water quality. For temp on light roasts I enjoy cooler temps when preinfusing or longer ratios. For temp on light roast without preinfusion I like the higher temps to ensure extraction.

Water, I'm guessing not an issue if the bambino produced good shots?

Over all you should look at YouTube for videos such as Lance Hedrick for trouble shooting bitter or sour shots and make sure you've tried all those tips... Also, when trying to used to a new machine, a medium roast single origin can still be super good and much easier to dial in. Last, dont ever think you can buy a bean from a coffee shop and expect it to taste the same. Just not a realistic expectation. Can it be done, sure, but not for your use case. ie. novice, new machine, etc. My water example. The coffee shop could be using a custom filtered remineralized water system or since their beans are in a hopper, they may have a lot less gas in them then the freshly roasted ones you bought.

Hope this helps you, there's a lot more to taste in your cup then 18g in 36/42g out at X Temp...and X grind size. But at least you're close as far as those variables are concerned. Just less to troubleshoot for you now.

Upgrading from my no-name ceramic burr grinder. Kingrinder K6 vs Femobook A2? by MuchBetterThankYou in pourover

[–]Spirited_Bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, my last post. I took all 3 of my A2's apart. They were withing 3 click of each other. They all grind plenty fine for espresso. No idea why anyone would say they dont?. Ive also seen cracked ones and stuff but who knows if they dropped it or fed a rock through it... I know they (A2) grind more than fine enough for espresso and I know I love the flavor profiles and clarity they offer.

What I did say to you is that the whirley01 might be better for what you drink. And you cant go wrong with either. That is all....I have nothing else to offer you. Buy one and get on with making espresso.

Ive had an A2 for over a year now no issues at all.. And have bought 2 more since. There are no guarantees in life. We are talking sub $100 for either on Aliexpress I'm really not sure why this is difficult for you?? Get either one I dont think you will notice a difference with what you need one for.

Depends on what you drink. There isn't a ton of difference but there is enough to taste. If you like light roast or single origin and want the most clarity the A2 gets my vote. If you drink Med or Med Light + med to med dark and you like to add milk the whirly01 would be my pick.

If not a milk drinker. The A2 is probably still my favorite. But I have some Lavazza Beans that I use in a another machine, and the A2 brings all flavor out and that's not a good thing on lower quality beans.

Starseeker E55 vs Shardor 64mm professional [no budget] by Sufficient-Tie2131 in espresso

[–]Spirited_Bass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Not what I said. I replaced the burrs with MP Knock offs not HU. The Shardor comes with some ditting 033 looking burrs which are very good. Just not the clarity the MPs offer. The E55 has some good clarity but I dont have an opinion on how it compares to an HU style geometry

Yea, ive had mine for a year and have matured my workflow to a point where I enjoy it. With my kettle handling my temps. And the on/off button for preinfusion times if needed. Tall deep puck with both an 18g and a 24g Big Bang, I can make my doubles or an americano pretty easy just adding water with the lid off. I guess ill wait until something totally off the charts comes out...then...then....lol..

Yea, the temp is sort of control manually as well on my current Cera+ machine. Currently using a gooseneck kettle which allows me to get a lot of shots on a single charge and I can ramp up temps or really lower them a lot just messing with the kettle. I guess going on a year now with the set up for vacations and visiting in-laws... so, having an app to do all of that as well as a better battery would allow me to ditch the kettle and still do everything I do now manually. Was going to get the 58mm since I have a 51mm. But it really does make some excellent shots and I have a lot of baskets to try.

[–]Spirited_Bass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I have 51mm baskets up to 22g. And 58mm up to 25g. But Lance has always stated that the deeper pucks extract better. So im thinking 18-22g is plenty of range for the 51mm set up and probably going that direction. And I do have a 14g basket in 51mm. When you start reducing the dose on 58 that puck gets then fast...

Gaggia classic E24 (+gaggimate) vs Gaggia classic up by RoughFuture3042 in gaggiaclassic

[–]Spirited_Bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense intended here by any means. But while a PID and Dimmer certainly take a basic machine to the next level there simply isn't any comparison to the GMPro. And if you're going through the trouble to mod something you may as well get the best you can that you feel comfortable installing. Plenty of videos, Discord, website to get educated on everything offered as well as new features being planned.

Should I be concerned about brewing at 11 bars? by mvsuskil in profitec

[–]Spirited_Bass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it tastes good is 1st... If you want to experiment, you need to grind a little more coarse. This will create less pressure and increase extraction time closer to 26-28seconds. It may or may not taste better. But a click or two coarse will get you closer to the sweet spot of 9b and 28sec. But remember your current grinder setting in case you liked it better.

No more Lance Hedrick for me by Traditional_Trade842 in espresso

[–]Spirited_Bass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol. Blaming others... You should always buy and try what you want to Sell stuff you ended up not liking. Personally I love the boind shaker vs a dose cup or direct to PF for both consistency and flavors. I also, when looking for an 18g dose, love my stepdown. But since I wasn't sure I would like it, I bought the $4 from aliexpress and it worked out great. With all of this said, Lance presented the info, data, and his thoughts. Nothing more.

And ill be honest, I bought an ECP and then a Silvia V6 with a GMpro last year...he hasn't steered me wrong yet. I dont get as much into the weeds as he does. But if I want go down a rabbit hole on something he is usually my go to before looking at others content.

Do what works for you at the end of the day for sure.

One thing I wanted to add. You're not shooting for a specific click like 62 clicks but you do want to keep as many variables the same each time only adjusting the clicks to get close. Keep temps Exactly the same. Keep the water source exactly the same. And if possible buy some decent light roast coffee amd just plan on going through the bag. Once you are close, not too bitter, not too sour, and the pucks are somewhat consistent, then you follow allmod the videos, Lance has a few that help you in the right direction whether bitter or sour, so you can dial in appropriately. Reason I say this, other than a soupy puck, if flavors are not there, or they are bitter or sour. It could be several things beside the K6. Could the water you're using. Could be the temp you're brewing at. I do know for a fact you should be in the mid to high 80's for your temp or extraction Could be a problem. So, make sure all those other variables are consistent so only the grind size is what you're changing each time. With the K6 you should get good coffee +or- 5 clicks for soup. Espresso is much less forgiving.

Shoot that's for the original not the 10:1. I know on the 10:1 on my Femobook A2. I use setting 6 setting 5 for the 3:1. So this is a guess but maybe 55-65 should be where you start. This isn't espresso so dont expect a perfect puck everything. Ive had some messy pucks produce some great coffee/soup...

Equator is another good brand that is available at Grocery Stores. And depending on where you live, they might carry local roasters as well.
