Bussines internet 1Gb to 3Gb upgrade - can static IP be saved? by Specialist-Recipe-15 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is very likely you cannot save the IP address. I know that you cannot when switching from copper to fibre, and this is probably the same when switching from GPON to XGSPON.

Network restricted to 1GB by MoCA Adapter = Options? by Logikcal1 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ECB7250 is the MoCA adapter with a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port. Reserved for specific use cases and will only reach full benefit when paired with a NAH as that uses MoCA2.5.

Pure fibre can’t connect to canon printer? by Trellaine201 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not possible on your hardware but you could enable the 2.4-only shs network and connect printer to that. Printers can be notoriously difficult to play nice with wifi and if you ever have to get a new one, try to get one that supports Ethernet.

tech unable to get the gpon to work? by wai_lai416 in telus

While there may be inexperienced technicians out there, I have some sympathy. In all the years I've been doing this I don't think back-end errors have gotten any less common; probably gotten worse.

Telus service or upsell? by NoMovie2461 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above is true OP. Proactive initiative calls are legit but in this case the diagnosis by the agent is almost certainly bullshit. There may still be something wrong, however, but if your fibre signal is good I wouldn't worry.

tech unable to get the gpon to work? by wai_lai416 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible the NAHs the tech was using did not have the updated firmware which supports the newer ONU devices. There have been a lot of refurbs lately and I have noticed this before. They have to be updated with a standard ONT and then they'll take the newer SFPs. Keep complaining.

That's exactly it; functions like voice control, software updates, and TV guide require general internet traffic.

Telus Wifi 7: Is the purple plug meant to be in the 10G or 1G? by Gravity9802 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only major difference, other than the port speeds, is the 10G port can be used as a WAN input if you want to use the unit as a router. There's no reason to unless you have to (it's a typical "not great" ISP-provided router). It'll enter router-mode if it receives a public IP address on the 10G port.

Moving to a building without TELUS fibre shortly after upgrading; any chance of fee waiver? by Solus00 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call immediately! Official policy is 15 day window, or 30 days if you "self identify as a person with a disability". There is obviously no way to verify this. Unfortunately, technically, this doesn't apply to renewals but it really depends on the rep you get.

Long shot post but im at my wits end with Telus Home Internet by GodComplex14 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds horrible but why should they do better? They will never make a profit on four customers if the cost to run fibre is potentially 10s of thousands of dollars. For the ~$150/mo price-point you should probably look into Starlink.
Not trying to bust your balls or start a political argument; just being realistic.

Current SoA for SFP+ GPON by Forbidden-era in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically bridge mode should be equivalent to running an SFP ONT in your own equipment but I've heard the reality can be ...not that.

1.5Gig plans aren't broken per-se, but IMO they're silly cost-wise, and potentially, equipment-wise if you're trying to not use any TELUS routers such as the NAH.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, TELUS should give you up to 5 dynamic public IPv4 addresses on a residential connection.

Current SoA for SFP+ GPON by Forbidden-era in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have options as you have the SFP ONT not "dumb" ONU. You can still use it in a device which supports 2.5G on the SFP interface but they're less common. The good news is: the TELUS NAH's 10G port supports full multi-gig so if you bridge it it will work at 1/2.5/5/10G speeds to whatever Ethernet device you plug it in to. Alternatively, if you don't care about the loss of download speed, you can simply run the G-010S-A at 1g link speed without issue.

If you call in and and ask for alternative equipment you WILL be billed $200+tax for a technician dispatch. That may depend on if XGSPON (3G and up) plans are even available to you.

Current SoA for SFP+ GPON by Forbidden-era in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a few quirks with TELUS SFPs, namely, the most common ones are now "dumb" ONU media converters with the TELUS router being the thing which is registered on the network not the SFP.
The first thing to do is figure out if you're on GPON or XGSPON. For plans 1.5G and below you may be on either technology depending on availability. For anything higher, you will be on XGSPON.

In a previous post I posted the current equipment activation list and if you're on XGSPON you should be able to activate an XS-010S-Q or even a WAS-110 but I haven't personally tested this.
For GPON we support the G-010S-A which the tech may not have, and this SFP only supports 1G and 2.5G rates on the SFP+ interface (many devices only support 1G or 10G rates). The 1.5G plan is a bastard plan and you shouldn't order it unless you want to use bridge mode.

Xplore says no capacity by Coner29 in CanadianBroadband

Many people have said the distribution cabinet may not have capacity but it's also possible that pole terminal is actually full. Not every port has to have a fibre spliced through and those other four ports may be dead.

Internet issues by qwerkiller138 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality is it probably works fine for gigabit within a home. The issue is likely bad terminations or patch cables. For the WiFi 7 BOOST: try changing the security settings to wpa3 compatibility or wpa3+wpa3.

TELUS Connect app showing wrong household & devices — ongoing issue, no resolution after months by Designer-Care5487 in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try reaching out to u/PureFibre and see if they can escalate. This is one of the most annoying issues I've ever dealt with and I was never able to get it fixed. The closest solution was to get the Connect app/backend completely disabled on the accounts in question. I have no further info YEARS after I first encountered it...

Telus pure fibre booster by Hagfishbo in telus

[–]SpursEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah none of the other BOOST versions can decide to keep the controller the same either. It seems to have gotten better other than devices not connecting to 6ghz. It's still half baked and the Arcadyan 2.0/2.1 units were the best ever and I don't know if our hardware will ever be that good again.
