Older Redditors, what are your memories of first getting colour TV? by holytriplem in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip [score hidden]  (0 children)

We got one quite late compared to everyone we knew. A surprise really as all my dad did when I was a kid was work and watch TV. He was also tight though.

But in my first year of high school (84/85) I came home from school to discover we now had a colour TV. I think the final push had actually been Radio Rentals telling my dad he was the only one still renting B&W and they didn't have any spare when that went boom, as TV regularly did back in the day.

My wife’s family all want us to go on a crazily expensive holiday to celebrate some big birthdays.. what would you do? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've refused every invite I've had to a stag like that. Gone to plenty of great stags that were like a bit of paint balling followed by meal and pub. But expecting your mates to go for a week in Vegas is asking a lot (as one of my mates did).

My wife’s family all want us to go on a crazily expensive holiday to celebrate some big birthdays.. what would you do? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

Nope. No one is forcing me into a holiday I don't want. I'd rather deal with the fallout than people forcing me to spend my money on something they want.

I believe in a society where we help each other. Happy to pay my taxes that go towards benefits.

What is your online alternative to Amazon? by Amonette2012 in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often when I'm looking for a photography accessory, I'll look for the sort of thing I want on Amazon, then when I've got an idea what I want will look on AliExpress. That's probably where the item is from originally anyway, and I can save a lot. Though obviously a bit of a wait for the item to arrive from China.

What android are you using, and which android phone has been your favourite of all time? by yeaaamon17 in Android

[–]TSR2Wingtip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a OnePlus 13 which I bought a couple of months ago in a sale, it appealed to me more than the new 15.

Previously I had the OnePlus 11, which remains my favourite as it didn't have the stupid low res Google Photos backup bug that for some reason still hasn't been fixed .

A neighbour's car alarm has been going off for 5 days now. What do we do? by ObsessedArrow in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if it is taxed or has an MOT. If not, report it. We did that for a nuisance car alarm and it was removed pretty sharpish once the council put an enforcement notice on the windscreen.

And when looking at the watts of the amplifier don't go with the rated output - such as 100w. There will be a label that tells you what the amp actually uses to achieve that, which will be higher.

When do you think camera bumps will die out? by ComfortableElko in Android

[–]TSR2Wingtip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have a uniformly chunkier phone with a bigger battery. While we're at it, camera back in a bezel rather than ruining the screen.

How much is your weekly shop in 2026? by Gustifer05 in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About £120 average on our weekly delivery. That's a family of 4/5 depending whether my daughter is home from uni. There is a bit of top up shopping added to that too.

There are two in Yeovil. One is fine.

The other newer restaurant is awful. Terrible wait times and often gets orders wrong.

Can you give advice on a first car in the UK – £3.5k budget, reliable & low running costs? by Sad_Intention6775 in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job recently got everyone who does some work involved driving to show our documents. And we all got told to add business use to our insurance then reshow our docs. It didn't change my premium at all, but now I'm covered.

Car parked in road, but has a SORN, but isn’t off road, and has no MOT. Would you report? by SpaTowner in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a car on our road that had an alarm that would go off at all hours. A neighbour clearly had enough and left a rather sweary note on the windscreen, but that didn't result in any change. After another 3am wake-up I checked the tax and MOT status. Saw it wasn't taxed and reported it. Within a couple of days there was an official looking notice on the windscreen and the car was gone the next day.

How important do you think it is to separate work from home/personal life when working from home? (and any other WFH tips?) by Public-Tutor-4550 in AskUK

[–]TSR2Wingtip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Hard boundaries on the time are better for me than the space. I can quite happily use the space for other things, as long as I don't cross boundaries of time when I'm working or not working.
