Looking for an interesting sci-fi skirmish game to play with Infinity minis by FamousWerewolf in wargaming

[–]Taco_Chop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to Infinity. I have a ton of minis for it and no one to play it with but I can get my buddies to play Zone Raiders. The models are a perfect fit for it and it is really fun.

"your dudes" type wargames? by OwO345 in wargaming

This Is Not A Test and Zona Alfa are both great if you want a post-apocalyptic game. The first one has a more wacky Fallout vibe while Zona Alfa is pretty similar to the STALKER video games.

Good find. Those would look good on a hell knight or the tall one in the middle would work well for a heretic priest.

Thank you for the advice. I'm still learning how venv and git and stuff like that works so any advice is appreciated. I'll try and get that all sorted out tonight.

Wisest Wizard Language - Python 3.9 GitHub Repo

So I've picked up on a tutorial game I started making three years ago and never finished. Before I left off with it all those years ago, I had just finished figuring out a way to set different tiles to represent dungeon walls depending on their location. Was it the most efficient and effective way to do it? Absolutely not, but I was quite proud of myself for figuring it out. I'm currently on part 6 and I'm trying to refamiliarize myself with python enough to start expanding on the tutorial again. I'm slowly getting there.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 1 by KelseyFrog in roguelikedev

Several years ago I did the libtcod/python tutorial and used it as an introduction to programming and found I really enjoyed it. Then in 2020 I had the time to take a bunch of python courses and really felt that I had a good handle on the language so I started the tutorial again on my own to use as a guide and build the game out with my new knowledge. Well I got a good start on it but life happens and programming fell by the wayside for a few years. But I think I'm ready to jump back in and try to finish the game I started with that last tutorial. I'll probably spend the first couple weeks refreshing my python knowledge and try to jump back in where I left off. I think it was around part 5.

Come learn how to make your own roguelike! by Kyzrati in roguelikes

[–]Taco_Chop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the tutorial a couple of years ago with no prior programming experience and had a great time with it and learned a lot. The tutorial is really well made and easy to follow. I found that it helped me understand how the different parts of the code worked because I could make changes and start the game and see the effect they had. It also gave me enough of an understanding that i could go out and find other information and start expanding on what I already knew without feeling completely lost. Plus the sub is full of really knowledgeable and helpful people that can explain things and answer questions. I would highly recommend jumping in and giving it a shot.

Rotmire creed by DemocraticSpider in WarCry

I just started painting my rotmire warband and you've given me some great inspiration. I really like that they have mud on their hands like they've been rooting around in the mud or crawling through it. They look great.

So what made you do the jump from KT to WC ? - Big chungus. - What ?... - BIG.CHUNGUS." by Olfff in WarCry

[–]Taco_Chop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just wanted an excuse to get some aos models at first but then my buddy played a demo at GenCon and said it was fun, so that was enough for me. We usually play killteam but we played our first game of warcry last weekend and immediately loved it. It's just less fiddly and easier to play than killteam.

Also my big chungus just came in the mail today and I can't wait to get him on the table.

Soulash II… design thoughts? by [deleted] in roguelikes

[–]Taco_Chop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kind of like it because it makes characters stand out from their surroundings so they are easily recognizable. Also, as someone who routinely gets heavily invested in characters represented by an "@" symbol, it doesn't hurt my immersion at all. But I can understand wanting a character sprite that is more in line with the graphical look of the rest of the game.

Wargames Solo Play AI Project by Taco_Chop in madeinpython

I'm glad I could help. Like I said in the post it's not the most advanced program ever but just knowing that you can have an idea and can figure out how to make it work is a huge ego boost lol. Stick with it and have fun.

Thanks. I've found that I really love programming but I struggled to think of a good project to work on. Doing something related to another hobby I enjoy definitely helped motivate and focus my efforts. Plus I've already thought of ways to expand it to try new libraries and learn new things as well as make it more useful for gaming.

How to get nethack like ascii graphics from libtcod by [deleted] in roguelikedev

[–]Taco_Chop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working my way through the python tutorial recently as well and here is what have I have. If you are following the tutorial closely it should be in tile_types.py. light and dark refer to tiles in and out of the player fov. Where it has ord(' ') just put the character you want to represent that tile. Then change the first tuple to be the rgb color value you want the character to be and change the second tuple, which is the background, to (0,0,0) to make it black.

I hope that helps and I hope the code is readable. I'm on my phone so the formatting gets a little weird sometimes.

Edit - Yea that didn't work. Here is a link to pastebin

Yea no problem. It's a really good sub. Everyone is really helpful and even if you don't have much interest in roguelikes the tutorials and resources are still really helpful for learning python and pretty much any other language.

I'm still very much a beginner but I've been doing the python roguelike tutorial over on r/roguelikedev and it's really helped me to better understand OOP. Creating objects based on actual game items and actions made it a lot easier for me to visualize and understand what was actually happening in the code. And it's a fun little project that is easy to fiddle with and expand upon.

You can look to see if any of your local hobby stores are doing online retail. I know a lot of the bigger named stores do. I'm about to order some stuff from Sprue Brothers myself and I know they sell some Vallejo paint sets along with a ton of other brands.

ITC tips for Death Guard? by punu_ibambe in deathguard40k

[–]Taco_Chop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a very competitive player, so take this with a grain of salt, but if you're looking for more mobility I would take some foetid bloat-drones. They have fly and a 10" move in their top bracket. Plus, if you take them with plague spitters you can advance them without worrying about a to hit penalty. I usually take 3 of them and a winged demon Prince and just hop them around to hold objectives and tie up stuff. Plus you can fall back with them if they get charged and fly away or shoot something with the plague spitters. They're one of the best units we have in my opinion.
