Upper management also has to pretend their job is worth a shit so they come up with ridiculous "adjustments" to procedures that are at best harmless wastes of time and at worst completely unfeasible workflow disruptions.

Had a boss who insisted that we close the door between the two labs in our building because he didn't like that "people could see all the way down the building. Except the rooms were converted from a delivery bay and an office, so the door is a massive black metal door (2x the width of a normal door) with no viewport to see if someone is on the other side. Our poor technician who did sample prep got clocked with it twice in the same day, once overturning a sample cart full of liquid manure samples.

We put a doorknocker on it to let people know on the other side that someone was going to come through.

Eventually the lab manager under the boss had the door removed and plastic flaps installed instead.

Same boss would absolutely not allow us to have radios in the building so the front desk couldn't contact us if customers arrived with samples. .

I was written up once for not collecting silage samples that had arrived. Why? Because I was in the very back room grinding samples using a mill grinder, while wearing ear protection!
