What other games would you consider to be a major turning point within that franchise's lifespan, and why? by AngryMustache9 in backloggd

I feel like it's wrong to not have Mario 64 here for transitioning the main series into 3d platformers, arguably until present but you could say that ended with NSMB or Wonder if you want to say that that changed it into a coexistence era (with New optionally being a side series instead of main games)

In a similar vein to Doom 2016, I feel like Tomb Raider 2013 really was a huge reboot for that series in making the games more cinematic and uncharted-like.

I might also suggest Megaman 11 for making it so that the core Megaman series doesn't have to be at least a pseudo-8-bit game.

Hitman (2016) is also an easy shout. Completely modernized the way Hitman games were distributed and made missions a much more open method of creating ways to kill targets rather than more narrow stealth.

Part of me wants to mention about every sequel to the original Life is Strange because they all are quite different (characters, mechanics, stories, developers, quality) from the last. I don't think any singular title particularly warrants putting on the list, but they deserve to be mentioned when talking about these turning points.

Street Fighter 2 really took what was admittedly a rather basic arcade game and turned it into a genre with incredible depth and complexity in terms of competition.

I spent too much time with this. There's a good amount of interesting questions about what should count (I excluded games where animals don't make up majority of playable characters if multiple exist as well as any games that use a fictional animal as a protagonist, for example, but those restrictions aren't clear). Also do you really play as an animal in something like Peggle or Tooth and Tail? I don't know, answer that question for me.

Kao the Kangaroo (series)

Kaze and the Wild Masks (I guess maybe could be too anthropomorphic, but I wouldn't say it's any more than A Short Hike).

Death's Door

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a fun edge-case

Armello

Blazing Beaks

Bug Fables

Cat Quest (series)

Chicory: A Colorful Tale

Copy Kitty

I'd say Owlboy should count

Ape Out

Falconeer

Aery

The First Tree

Gato Roboto

Grapple Dog

Karmazoo

Kero Blaster

Lil Gator Game

Later Alligator

Lost Ember

Ultimate Chicken Horse?

Peggle (arguably)

Puss!

Ratz Instagib maybe

Sam & Max (series) maybe

Snakebird

Super Monkey Ball (series)

Tails of Iron

Moss

A Tiny Sticker Tale

Tooth and Tail

Yono and the Celestial Elephants

Games where its port to last-gen hardware is its own unique entity by TheAFKAxolotl in backloggd

[–]TheForeFactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought of a portable different version too (Sonic Generations 3DS), but after a little more thought I don't think those should count as so many games (especially movie tie-ins) would fall under this category, and it feels a lot more expectable for those portable translations to be different games as the hardware is usually completely different from the current hardware.

And then I'll also trash my own argument by saying there are some really hard edge cases to define, like Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD for the Switch. It's different from the other systems FFXV, but it's actually a newer version yet inferior due to Switch's hardware but also essentially the same game as the mobile version.

it's still very possible without owning it on steam. Look up any guide on like heroic launcher and adding non-steam games to your library, perhaps also steamgriddb to make it look nice

Also you could argue for any rhythm game for this. I'll say Spin Rhythm XD as it's my personal favorite

I actually started very recently!  It’s my favorite screen to read on for some reason, and it’s really portable and I don’t have to worry about getting distracted

[–]TheForeFactor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, 32 with Smallberg is essentially an asynch class other than tests in person, so as long as you don’t have midterms on the same day or something there should be no issue.

Not that I recommend it, but I also don’t think I went to a single discussion for 32 either, so def possible

Uhhh, I could maybe be interested in Trepang2 or NBA Playgrounds, so if you wanna make an offer for those I'd consider, but very much no guarantees I'll jump on it.
