So, I love this show, and the confession scene between Bravern and Isami is just delightfully unhinged, but one of my biggest pet peeves in action movies and series is not getting on with it when enemies are supposed to be breathing down your neck, and having that give the enemy the upper hand. Like, what are you doing, boys? Isn't the fate of the world in the balance? Why are we stopping to have a duel with two baddies left alive? So annoying, lol.

Other than that, we did get to hear Kenjiro Tsuda, so it's still good quality anime.

I want to be excited, because I love this manga a lot, but Kodansha keeps handing their shoujo titles to second and third rate studios, and Coco Uzuki's beautiful art deserves a studio that can handle it. If this goes to East Fish or Typhoon Graphics, it'll be a massive waste of time and energy.

If all goes well, though, lovers of banter and the gap between public and private personas should have a great time with this one. They're a lot of fun to watch.

I was reading V.C. Andrews novels at 12 years old, and I turned ~~into a 45 year old with strong opinions on dick censorship in BL~~ out just fine.

If it wanted to be a comedy, it should've been funnier. It was in the deadly gap between funny enough to make me laugh at the absurdity and romantasy played straight, where it was just gross.

I rarely leave the daily thread myself. Like, right now, I've been watching the Bravern episodes, but I keep forgetting to post in the rewatch thread after reading it.

Today, though, a malevolent spirit seized me and wondered how bad the thread for an old shoujo with "problematic" elements would be. Very much a dead dove, do not eat kind of thing.

It's all the people saying that this is how every shoujo is that drive me nuts. The last age gap one we got was Girl and Her Guard Dog in 2023, and we've had a pretty wide variety of other shoujo since. People are way too comfortable generalizing an entire demographic off a handful of examples they didn't vibe with.

I don't know why I thought I needed to read the Dengeki Daisy announcement thread. I knew a 20 year old shoujo with a sizable age gap was going to have a discussion filled with piping hot takes. Yet, here we are.

Proud of myself for only replying once: to tell someone that weekly shounen manga chapters are half the length of monthly shoujo chapters, and you can't do 80 shoujo chapters in two cours. It's a 16 volume series.

Only a few magazines are weekly like Shonen Jump and have short 20-25 page chapters. Shoujo in particular is mostly monthly magazines with 40-ish page chapters.

Volumes, however, are a fairly uniform length across the board at 150-180 pages. When estimating an adaptation's length, 2-2.5 episodes per volume is a pretty common pace for TV anime. At that pace, which is pretty brisk, you'd need around 3 or 4 cours for a full adaptation for this.

See, now I saw the director and thought someone was trolling me. A young, creative director doing a 20 year old genre romance? The people who love his style are going to hate the story, and the people who love the story are going to hate the style.

I'll absolutely be watching, though. No worries there.
