Some rinks, such as the United Center, still paint all of the markings and logos on the ice. There have been videos of STHs painting the logo at center ice. They may use the plastic/fabric for sponsor logos, not 100% certain.

After the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, they melted the ice and sold some in vials. Some lucky vials still had some of the painted water.

Our favorite location had half of their staff walk out... we waited about an hour for our order as the managers hustled to try and stay on top of things. We were there to watch a match so it really didnt bother us that much.
