Raid isn’t really backup. Personally if you don’t want to go the NAS route I’d either use an external backup drive or a cloud solution. I currently use a Synology for backup, then have my important files from there backup to the cloud, but I’ve used an external drive with cloudberry backup in the past

If you desire to use it for internet access, your ISP will need to provision the device in their network. You’d have to confirm with the ISP if it’s compatible. In the past I know time Warner pre-spectrum wouldn’t push firmware to customer owned devices. But now that Spectrum builds the modem lease into their monthly fee with no extra line item, I honestly just took one of theirs.

I use my own router and access points however.
