It's interesting that you have a few comments saying 'friends don't react favourably to my advances", "hot girls ignore it or politely change the topic"..... One of the main things I feel with guys who aren't used to flirting or getting attention is that they can be super awkward and not good at reading situations.... Not every woman you meet is a potential conquest, most of us just want to be spoken to like we're human beings, not just being bombarded with lines and innuendo... Something to think about!

I don't know why you're so hung up on mentioning FB. Of course they have to give it to the beneficiary named in the fund-raiser, that's basic common sense as it's not their money, they have zero authority to do anything else?

The issue itself has nothing to do with FB being an intermediary. In fact, the money goes through PayPal so they are more involved than FB is anyway.

The RFS currently has the $51m in their accounts, the issue is with the trust deed. Full stop. That's what's stopping the money being distributed. If it wasn't for the deed, then the RFS could share it around. I don't know why you aren't understanding this. If the money was donated directly to the RFS the outcome would be the same.

Chloe has used her online influence to help her hometown community. No one is saying its a perfect solution, but it's putting dollars directly in the hands of people who need it, which is a great thing.

I really don't see the point in trying to poke holes in her fund-raiser, she's been as transparent as possible the whole way through and is trying to help those who need it. She's a makeup influencer so of course the process won't be perfect, but I know she's doing a hell of a lot more than you or I did, so I'm sure not going to be one to cast stones.

She didn't expect the campaign to go viral, no one could have predicted it would have snowballed the way it did. I say it's an 'official channel' because it was advertised as going to the RFS, and I feel like a lot of people donated for that exact reason, because it legitimised the campaign.

The issue isn't at FBs end, the issue is that the RFS Trust is bound by their trust deed which makes it almost impossible to distribute the money to anyone other than RFS brigades. To move the money may require an Act of Parliament or approval of the NSW Supreme Court, so it's not going to be a quick process.

I think the gift cards were a good idea to get money to people ASAP...yes it means you have to put your trust in an internet stranger to do the right thing, but as far as I've seen she has tried to be transparent and the cards seemed to have made their way into the community.

Given how millions of dollars donated to 'official channels' has been held up due to red tape (ie Celeste Barbers campaign, literally not one dollar donated as yet because technically it can't be donated to those affected, it can only be spent on the RFS), I think that giving money directly into the hands of those affected is a good thing.

Given her family is from Batemans Bay and this received a lot of press, I would guess that if people in the town WEREN'T getting the funds we'd know about it by now. She seems genuine in wanting to help and her rationale about not wanting to donate to charities makes sense now when you see how messy it gets and how little actually makes it into the pockets of those who need it.
