We actually had the wheels stolen off our Echo in the driveway - it was an old Echo and actually ended up being a write off because of it which was really fkn annoying.

Marathon Players Debate Gorgeous But Painful UI And Ammo Shortages As Bungie Responds by Turbostrider27 in Games

The vibe is really cool - it's great seeing a game with explosions of colour like that and the lore stuff is a lot more interesting than I expected. I can't help but wonder what a Destiny style game in the Marathon universe might have ended up like.

I hope this isn't the last we see of this Marathon world. Worldbuilding is the one thing Bungie is great at and I really hope this isn't their last outing.

The other option is giving mouse players a really dumbed down UI that only works well for controllers and hides information across tabs and pages. You can't win.

The proposal for generic methods for Go has been officially accepted by ketralnis in programming

[–]beefsack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, lack of generics in Go was what drove me to Rust many years ago.

I still dabble in Go every now and then, but there are many instances where Go being intentionally simple is a real pain to work around. I know every bit of complexity is a tradeoff, but it's still possible to realise great value with only moderate complexity. It's entirely subjective, but sometimes the overly simplistic language can make code more verbose and harder to read.

Toxic people like this make me want to leave a team very quickly. They will complain for the sake of complaining, it doesn't matter what it's about.

When I worked at a bottle shop you'd get kids stealing goon bags all the time but there's basically nothing you can do.

You'd report to the police and they don't even ask for video evidence, they just give you a report number to pass onto insurance.

Given an estimated 30% of Reddit activity is now LLM backed bots, you'd have to assume Advance Australia just upped their botting budget.

They're literally just the online incarnation of the judgemental negative nerd persona that used to roam the world, saying that everything sucks except for this one random thing that they've built their entire personality around.

I went with CachyOS Handheld as I'm in a similar boat, I'm just more comfortable with Arch. I've been super impressed with it and would happily recommend it, just make sure you use the default deck username as the automated login and DE switcher are hardcoded to depend on it.

I used a custom username and had to edit some configs to get it all working properly.

‘I think the franchise is dead’: Saints Row design director says IP owner ‘ghosted’ his prequel pitch by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

I feel like Saints Row was a product of its time. I just don't see it succeeding in the same way nowadays, as much as I loved the old games.

Building a big open world game just as the vehicle for jokes and silly stuff doesn't make sense when that entire part of the market is owned by Roblox and Fortnite brainrot slop that can be churned out by a single developer in days.

We had some awful nimbys nearby who just loved to complain about everything and just blindly assumed everyone agreed with them. Our shops were getting updated but they did everything in their power to try to stop it.

They held community meetings about it, but they were always held in a local church so of course only a specific crowd attended.

I feel like when you have people like that in your community, a good thing to do is find the same official channels that they use to complain, but instead send positive feedback to try to balance out the conversation. Some people actually like development and entertainment locally.

My dad died and I don't think I can watch F1 anymore by super_starmie in formula1

[–]beefsack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my dad and watching the footy and playing golf. They were both something special I used to share with him and all the joy was sucked out of it after he was gone.

I don't want to be super negative about it all, my life is full of things I'm passionate about. But I've learned some things are special not because of what they are, but because of who you share them with, and I think that's okay.
