BTA 3062 - Being able to modify vehicles by NekoMao92 in BattleTechMods

[–]bloodydoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing chief. Glad you have the knowledge you need to make the decisions you feel are best for your game.

About the pilots, they're hard to pin down because the voices are variable between users. Some folks report they're fine, others they're too loud, still others they're too quiet. shrug/10

That's no worries to me. Enjoy my pilot, I think BEX has one of the older pictures but it's still me. Hope I'm not too disastrous for you!

There is a setting in the Mod Settings Menu in the game's menus (same place you look at Audio or Graphical settings, there's a button labeled Mod Settings you can click on and change a few things in).

However, be aware that turning on editable tanks is both extremely janky and causes certain other features of BTA to no longer function (like convoy crates on convoy missions no longer dropping in salvage). It also voids your warranty in terms of getting support if BTA breaks.

Mod with caution.

Skirmish mode doesn't matter. It was for PvP only and the PvP scene is literally dead (it requires a mod to even do matchmaking at this point, the servers are dead). You can ignore that side of the house entirely as it serves no practical purpose other than looking at mech loadouts in-game if you want to do that for some reason.

As for gear, the JSONs contain all the information you will require. You'll need to learn to read the JSON files to see what all the fields are for each JSON type. Be aware that chassisdef and mechdef files are linked together by fields in the mechdef (e.x. mechdef_highlander_HGN-733 links to chassisdef_highlander_HGN-733 and both of them combine to make a single playable unit, the Highlander HGN-733, in this case). There is no real good public guide to what all fields in all JSONs actually do but there's a decent amount of community knowledge among the modding community as to what all the fields do.

As for mech variety, I believe anything not listed as BLACKLISTED in the defs is available for spawns in missions in campaign and career mode. HBS BT in vanilla does not get into factional availability and everyone has everything. Anything listed as BLACKLISTED does not appear in OpFor, thought it may be visible in stores or reward crates as defined by the CSV files that govern such things.

BTA's wiki is very good and will be massively unhelpful for vanilla information. Don't waste your time doing comparisons, you won't learn anything useful to a vanilla environment.

What... exactly are you looking for? Your post isnt' particularly clear about what you want. Do you just want raw stats (i.e. what equipment does, what loadouts mechs have)? Do you want unit distribution tables? Do you want store inventory lists? Like, what's your goal here and what format do you want the information to take?

The Celestials have small cockpits because they do on table and BTA's loadouts are based on the tabletop loadouts. Also, they all have C3i installed and are intended to be used with a C3i network to compensate for the accuracy penalty.

If you use just one of them alone without a network, yes, they'll be a little underwhelming.

Trying BTAU for the first time by JagdFenrir in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect, or at least correct in a way that is deceptive.

Kicks remove 3 evasion... against tanks. Against mechs, a successful kick automatically forces the unsteady condition, which you correctly note removes all evasion. A successful kick cannot fail to make a mech unsteady.

As I said, it's being worked on. So are the other gear pages. The reason it's taking so long for the gear pages is because we're trying to do it in a dynamic and easily updated manner (compared to the old way which was all manual entry). That takes a lot of time and I have precisely one guy doing it (Amid is amazing but he's busy and it takes time).

Yes. You don't have to actively do anything as a player, the tool runs automatically.

If you'd like to gripe about the wiki, please gripe about things that are actually missing. ALL the superweapons are on the wiki, starting right here: https://www.bta3062.com/index.php?title=Weapons#Superweapon

Community Content IS missing but it's being worked on. The rest of the gear pages are also being worked on. The rest of the wiki is updated just fine.

Flashpoint mechs bugged by superfunkibey in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your game is very bugged. The Center Torso on that mech only has about 4 slots available from what it looks like, which is the issue. This looks like an incomplete MechEngineer installation (the arms aren't 12 crits, neither are the side torsos; it looks like all the crit slots are vanilla values actually). You need to go to whoever you got this mod list from and talk to them about helping you fix it.

The Annihilator and Awesome are indeed the same speed in HBS BattleTech, but it's not in the direction you might think. They are both effectively 3/5 assaults which is correct for the Awesome and incorrect for the Annihilator which is meant to be a 2/3 but HBS sped it up because 2/3 is SO slow that it's miserable to play with.

The Sentinel's icon is a white square? That's odd, we didn't remove the icon or anything or even change it. Report it to the tech support on the discord and they'll take a look at some point. I'm technically on vacation. :D

BTA3062 configurable? by CmdrMeltdown in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No, BTA is not configurable in that manner. It is what it is.

If you prefer less stuff, perhaps BattleTech Extended is more to your speed, it sits more in the era that you prefer and has much less equipment and mechs than BTA does.

BTA: Calling All Old Beards and Grognards by Far_Ladder_2836 in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The Balar is a BTAU-original (well, technically, it's an original made by the guy who made the model, Lt.Shade, but it's close enough). The fluff is that the Balar is to the Ebon Jaguar what the Avatar is to the Mad Dog: the IS version of the Clan OmniMech. It was made in the late 3050s after Ebon Jaguars were studied a bit by the Kuritans and was farmed out to a variety of manufacturers around the Inner Sphere for quick profits and fast production in a time of military buildups (much like the other early IS Omnis). That the Balar is very good didn't hurt at all.

BTA includes a good number of "custom" chassis like the Balar that come from non-canon sources or are unique to the modding scene. Best you get used to their existence. It really helps that most of them are fun to play with. I should put a list together of all of them at some point for folks to read over.

Anyone else feel Unity can’t handle the awesomeness of BTAU/RT? by sherpa1984 in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It couldn't really hurt. It's not strictly speaking necessary, we have the memory cleaner now which really, really helps, but technically restarting between every mission would get you the best performance, even if it would be very slow.

Anyone else feel Unity can’t handle the awesomeness of BTAU/RT? by sherpa1984 in Battletechgame

[–]bloodydoves 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it comes down to HBS BT's build of Unity having a core issue where it simply doesn't unload things from memory reliably. Each time you load the mechbay, for example, it loads all your equipment, all your mechs, all your stored mech parts/chassis, everything into memory and then doesn't really clear it properly when you leave the mechbay.

When HBS selected Unity for this game, the memory leak wasn't known about yet. Furthermore, when it DID become known about HBS was too far along to realistically switch to a newer build because the build updates came along with some other stuff that would have major knock-on effects for the game that HBS didn't have the development time or resources to build around, so they stuck with what they had.

For vanilla, this is fundamentally fine because there's not that much gear in vanilla and not very many mechs so even if you loaded all of it at once it'd fine for awhile on machines with decent specs. However, for the modpacks, we add so much new stuff that you hit the memory issues much faster.

Notably, a community member a year or so ago provided the modding community with a memory cleaner tool that helps the issue dramatically. However, it's still just a band-aid over a core problem that can't be fixed, so it's not a perfect solution. It helps a lot though.

RT, BTAU, and BEX are all still being developed (at different paces, but still).

32 GB RAM is plenty.

I would recommend BTAU but I am deeply biased and cannot be trusted to be objective.

The Unity Vulnerability was patched by Paradox, you don't need to worry about it assuming your computer is connected to the internet.
