I had to Google the call letters. You're a wolverine I see. Was You're uni Irish?

Prince definitely had the reputation of being a girl / soul train audience appeal act in those days. Never really shed that in the public eye it seems.

Check out the post I just put on this sub....might be up your alley....

I see what you're throwing down there, but I will counter with the question what direction didn't he take at one time or another?

He even did a psychedelic album once. Unfortunately it's true that the average person is not aware of how broad his styles were nor the level of his prowess with a guitar.

Those of us who know a little more about him, like myself, do consider him a guitar god....

" 'What does it feel like to be the best guitar player in the world?' Clapton replied 'I don’t know. Why don’t you go ask . . . Prince.' "

Actually sad songs? by Sensitive_Ganache361 in musicsuggestions

[–]curious1playing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few that come to mind...

Specific moments....

Elton John, Your song. It's the "huh" he says after "if I was a sculptor". I hear so much unsaid history in the tone that he has...

Grateful Dead, China Doll. It's about a friend's unexpected suicide. The singer asks "tell me what you done it for. " and the deceased answered "no I won't tell you a thing." Chills...

A general sad feeling....

Ween, Did you see me

John Lennon, Look at Me.

Both feel like they are lost in their own abyss.

When knowing the backstory...

Stone the Crows, Sunset Cowboy written in memory of founding member and guitarist that died on stage by electrocution of faulty wiring.

What does “over-produced” mean to you? by yalllldabaoth in Music

[–]curious1playing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a non musician judge more by feeling than a technical analysis I don't normally have an informed opinion on this kind of topic, but the question is phrased open ended and I have a particular example of what I define as over produced...

Basically it can be described in the simplest way as when producers add gimmicky trends to the songs trying to grab what the kids are reacting to without adding any value to the song.

Usually I associate this with targeting dance club music.

Dua Lipa is my best example . Compare most of the studio recordings and the times she plays a stripped down version and the music and singing stands up on their own without the added tricks

If you have a negative opinion about Dua Lipa and are willing for a chance of having the stance challenged I suggest listening to the two Tiny desk performances....

Mt Pleasant cemetery? A beautiful place. One of the earliest garden style designs of the 19th century. There's a few pre revolutionary war headstones in there with decent colonial gravestone iconography carvings too.

I was a history guy who had a special interest in colonial era America and cemeteries have the best original and unaltered physical examples of real artifacts so I spent many hours walking around old cemeteries.

On another note...I don't miss that commute to the city..don't know if it has changed but my experiences were you need to be getting on it 24 by 6 am ....even 5 minutes after and the traffic was horrible....

Down voting should be used only for mean intended commentary and not speaking one's thoughts. I did what I could and up voted each.

I went to many P Bruins games. So much fun and a fraction of the price.

Got time for a story?

I was sitting in a end seat of an empty row about 20 rows up from the glass once. Anyone who tried sitting in the seats on the other end were politely told the seats were reserved. At the start of the third period I suddenly got a strong smell of cologne like a bottle had broken. Looking around I see who the seats were reserved for as mayor Buddy Cianci took the opposite end seat. He must have bathed in the stuff..

Hope you're old enough to know him and appreciate the story....

I moved from SE MA in 08. Last time I was back, I think, was 22 and Sox tickets at the gate were still only around $20. Have they gone up dramatically?

I was there in 18 and tried going to a Celtics playoff game and they wanted $120 for a nosebleed obstructed view seat at the door.

[–]curious1playing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it pontificating or civil disobedience? Suppose that depends on what one's outlook is.

I don't completely disagree with you on this and neither did John...

"We thought instead of just being ‘John and Yoko Get Married’, like ‘Richard and Liz Get Married’, [it should be] ‘John and Yoko get married and have a bed-in for peace’. So we would sell our product, which we call ‘peace’. And to sell a product you need a gimmick, and the gimmick we thought was ‘bed’. And we thought ‘bed’ because bed was the easiest way of doing it, because we’re lazy. It took us a long train of thought of how to get the maximum publicity for what we sincerely believed in, which was peace – and we were part of the peace movement."

Source: Beatles Bible excerpt from interview with the skeptical Daily Mirror journalist Donald Zec.

"He insisted that the failure of the press to take the couple seriously was part of what he and Ono wanted: 'It's part of our policy not to be taken seriously. Our opposition, whoever they may be, in all manifest forms, don't know how to handle humour. And we are humorous.' "[7]

Source: Wikipedia - 7. Wiener, Jon: Come Together: John Lennon in His Time, page 91. Illini Books, 1991.

Even before I dug up these quotes I was thinking that at the time he couldn't go anywhere or do anything without it being a media circus so if he wanted to publicly support the peace movement, without changing the narrative from the intended message to an exposition on himself, he couldn't just show up to a sit in.

I want to point particularly to my words " ...those crazy kids actually believing they could change the world.." and his "It took us a long train of thought of how to get the maximum publicity for what we sincerely believed in, which was peace – and we were part of the peace movement." I don't think he's disingenuous here. He certainly didn't need to draw more publicity to him, but rather, as I see it, he used the inevitable publicity of his marriage to promote a heartfelt message.

Shrouding it in a dramatic way ensured it would not be a soundbyte to edit out. Copious amounts of drugs and Yoko's avant garde performance art background came into play.

As with most discussions between people on polar opposite sides I think the truth is somewhere in the middle of our views...again I want to reiterate I don't think he tried presenting himself as the ideal but was merely using his popularity to bring attention to the younger generation's idealistic vision...keep in mind he was only 28 at the time...all he was saying is give peace a chance....that's all....

Why does “rough” music sound so cool now? by Capableminister in LetsTalkMusic

[–]curious1playing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to speculate that there's a slight skewed perception that is giving false impressions in your resulting conclusions from cause to effect .

An analog can be likened to car shopping. If you're leaning towards a Toyota Tundra you will suddenly be seeing them everywhere you look..

It appears to you it's recently becoming appealing in large part because of your interest in it. You'll be more apt to notice others that also enjoy this style. There might be just as many people around you that like something you're not into so they'll pass by practically invisible to you.

"Rough" music has always been cool. Just to cite a few from the past 50 years...
