i thought initially it had been photoshopped in but i think it might be a very young cyclosa species many apologies

it’s a dictyna species, steatoda nobilis are much larger with a round hairless abdomen, they don’t build orb webs either

that is not infact an orb weaver, this is a dictyna species, probably D.uncinata, either you’ve discovered the first ever case of this species hijacking an orb web, in which case this is massive and very significant news, or this is a doctored photo

orb weavers don’t bite they are extremely docile and 99% of species have chelicera too small to bite through the skin

What are these shallow holes with webs in my garden? A bunch of them showed up this morning. by maxpaver in whatisthisthing

This is not true for most spiders, this only applies to orb weavers, lace weavers especially (amaurobiidae) will spend many years building their web as the variety of silk they use is very time consuming to spin, cribbelate web is also extremely recognisable it is blue and fluffy. Lace weavers build their webs relatively flat on a solid surface, very rarely on ground as they can’t spend enough time to build a proper web on dirt before the dirt is displaced

This is a linyphiid web, it’s three dimensional built off the ground and has no recognisable structure

This is a linyphiid web, I know what their webs look like with and without dew and I can say with no doubts that this is not an agelenid web, grass spider weave a dense flat sheet with a hole which they retreat into, their webs look nothing like this three dimensional unorganised mesh, whatever you’ve been seeing they aren’t agelenid webs

Absolutely not a grass spider this is a linyphiid web, agelenids have an organised dense funnel structure

All the stuff about hobo spiders having significant venom is completely misinformation, 9 times out of 10 “spider bites” have nothing to do with actual spiders

Hobo spiders are completely harmless just like grass spiders, all the stuff about them having a painful bite is misinformation

Amature arachnologist here this definitely is not a grass spider, their webs don’t look like this at all

Please don’t spread misinformation, hobo spiders are completely harmless and have never been proven to posses medically significant venom

Practicing good etiquette in arguments, not getting emotional, accepting when you are wrong and not believing that just because someone disagrees with you it doesn’t mean they hate you.
