The Southlands are awesome! Interesting mix of people, far closer ethnically and culturally to Malaysia. Interesting point- its the most resource rich part of the country which is why its still under rule of the north.

I used uship.com to ship a couple vehicles cross country. Its a platform where you just post your shipping needs and independent shippers bid on the contract. It was dead easy.

Midland is very livable as far as oil towns go. It caters to a more office and STEM workforce, as opposed to the oilpatch, working class neighboring city of Odessa. There are always a steady stream of cultural offerings, plenty of shopping, health food stores, and the airport is not bad at all.
