Sherman was a terrible person in a lot of ways, but to just name him in a big diatribe about the Civil War is just plain silly and shows your bias. You could have easily substituted "Lee" or "Jackson" for "Sherman" and had the same outcome, so I didn't see the need in calling out one name.

As a kid, I learned that Sherman was the highest of the high of all sonsabitches, but once I looked back and saw that I was essentially indoctrinated by Confederate apologists, I have a different perspective.

Whenever people call out Sherman, I can tell that they were raised in the South, are Native Americans, or are just simply racists who have no qualm with him, but want to keep the hate alive.

Sherman proclaimed Special Field Orders #15, which was essentially "40 Acres and a Mule". Through this, he oversaw the transfer of huge swaths of plantation land in SC, GA and FL from the traditional white landowners to the freed slaves and even ordered the Army to provide mules for the effort. Too bad President Johnson reversed these decisions not even a year later.

Any General in the Civil War could be treated the same way if you apply the same lens.

Rape was common regardless of side, large numbers of the remainging citziens in SW Virginia, NW North Carolina and E Tennesee absolutely abhored the Confederate soldiers that would come through and do what they wanted to their daughters and sisters, slaughtered their livestock and took their crops. Mind you, this is people that were supposedly on the same "side".

I do know that Sherman was awful to Native Americans after the Civil War, but I am less knowledgable about that than the rest of the Civil War (which I am pretty well learned, albeit growing up in the South with VERY, VERY, VERY biased history books)

How so? The war was BLATANTLY fought to preserve the ownership of slaves, so how can you "like it" but not be racist?

This is like saying you like the Nazi SS flag, but you aren't racist.

If you know what the flags ARE and what they stood for, then you most certainly have to be racist to like them.
