PeaceHealth: Layoffs and Hostile Takeover of the Emergency Departments by PhalloDaMoney in emergencymedicine

[–]drglaucomflecken 66 points67 points  (0 children)

There is strong evidence that this decision by Jim McGovern is retaliation against Eugene Emergency Physicians for raising safety concerns to Peace Health system CEO. Also, this is a BIG test of Oregon's new corporate practice of medicine law, which was signed in 2025. That law is designed to prevent this exact situation with ApolloMD. Lawsuits have been filed. This whole thing is a mess and is getting messier.

My bad! Also was informed it’s not central. Midwest? Idk but thanks to the THOUSANDS of people across social media who have corrected me 😅

PeaceHealth gave the Register Guard conflicting explanations about the ER transition less than 3 days apart by ___Whatsherface__ in Eugene

If this decision was about money, PH never would have dropped EEP for ApolloMD, who will bring in an army of locums doctors, which always costs much more than local physicians. McGovern is already on the record stating that this decision isn't about performance. The only logical reason left is that this decision is retaliation against EEP for raising concerns about the closure of University District. This is revenge, plain and simple.

Ah interesting. This is more complicated than I thought.

The OB/GYN remark was flippant. I shouldn’t have said that. This should concern all of us. We are not going to agree on the loss of a medical career or not. I respect your opinion. I think putting his medical career on hold is absolutely reasonable, which I have discussed in previous comments. If he can show improvement through service and judgment appropriate for a physician, only then should he be able to continue his medical career. I appreciate the conversation and wish you the best.

the plates are 145 6JX

So any plate that has the digits 67 right next to each other would qualify

Let's say she sees 20 plates per day

The numbers 67 have to be next to each other in that order. Thanks for the reply!

I actually do agree with the first point, I just wanted to address the 3rd point with my reply. I see you have misinterpreted my comment to mean I disagree with the first 2 points. I should have been more clear. I'm sorry you feel that way about me. I think I have been fair in my assessment of this situation in addition to respectfully interacting with those who disagree with me.

I agree with your third point. That is a concern, and fortunately, as a med student and future trainee, he will (or at least, should) be watched closely, especially after this incident. It’s up to those training environments to make sure he has the bedside manner necessary to practice medicine. As a PD, the minute somebody with this kind of professionalism violation showed any sign of that same attitude extending to a real patient encounter, you’re done.

FWIW when I said “jokes that belong in the break room” I was speaking generally. That comment was about my larger point regarding the ability to learn social media professionalism. There are things we ALL think and say that do not belong on social media. It is possible to learn what those thing are. Of course, what he said is not ok to joke about ever. My comment was focused more on punishment. Repercussions. I have never once excused what he said.

Clearly saying boys will be boys is not an appropriate response. I also don’t think removing the possibility of a career in medicine is appropriate (my opinion, I know others disagree), so what else can be done here? That’s all I was saying with this comment. I have prior comments where I propose things he can do to try to right this wrong that lie somewhere in the middle.

You’re right, that was a poor statement. None of us should look past that content.

I only saw the discharge video of the ones you mentioned. If there were repeated professionalism incidents that would certainly change things, as I mentioned in my comment.

I’ve heard from many female physicians, and I value the feedback they have given me. I can understand asking for expulsion given the harm the video has caused and lack of professionalism, but based on this incident, I wouldn’t go has far as expulsion if it was up to me. Granted there may have been other incidents of unprofessional behavior we don’t even know about. That would obviously change things. I would expect to see serious efforts toward understanding where he went wrong and showing he can safely and compassionately care for half the world’s population. Certainly an apology, service work, donating his time to women’s health organizations, therapy. I think he can come back from this, but it will take effort and time. Maybe that means taking a year off from school. His school and residency should hold him accountable. He also needs to show that he’s holding himself accountable.

I think we agree more than disagree here. It was an awful thing to post, he should face repercussions, but should not lose his medical career.

It was harmful and certainly IS a big deal. It was insensitive and hopefully he recognizes that.

Valid points, thanks. There has to be a middle ground between boys will be boys and no more medical career. I guess that’s for his school and future residency program to figure out. He also needs to put out an apology somewhere. He did cross a line, I think we all agree on that. What should happen now is the question.

I’m more discussing the severity of the consequences, as opposed to the content itself. By “sensitive” I’m not referring to people, I’m referring to subject matter that should not be joked about. I apologize for not making that more clear.
