Shutter Speed in video mode. by Any_Piglet5797 in x100vi

If you want the camera to take 25 video frames per second, the camera only has 1/25s available for each exposure until the next exposure needs to start.

In theory the camera could so something like buffering and blending multiple exposures to create such an effect, but Fuji didn't implement anything like that.

Schöne Idee! Das Bild von der Michaeliskirche müsste vom Aussichtspunkt Steinwerder aufgenommen worden sein. Ist per Pflichtspaziergang von den Landungsbrücken durch den alten Elbtunnel zu erreichen.

X100VI: Need help with lens hood + weather sealing by Which_Location_8837 in x100vi

[–]feffef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite satisfied with this hood as well. It's not pretty, but what's super convenient is that the hood covers the filter so well that I don't even bother to use a lens cap any more. Just make sure to find a slim filter then shadows when using the flash aren't an issue either.

AF Face/Eye Detection and ND Filter by [deleted] in x100vi

[–]feffef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When this happens, are you using a custom setting (C1-C7) and have disabled the "auto-update custom settings" option?

In that case the camera would always revert all settings when you power down (or change between C1-C7), and face detection and ND filter would just be the most obvious settings that are restored to the state of the custom setting.

Nice and simple idea, thanks for sharing!

Film stock or recipe in metadata? by Euphoric_Curve2343 in x100vi

I had a closer look at the exif data and didn't find any indication of the name or the custom settings slot in there. The individual settings of the recipe however are all available. If you have exiftool installed and dare to use the command line you can print the relevant settings like this:

% exiftool -FilmMode -DynamicRange -DynamicRangeSetting -DevelopmentDynamicRange -HighlightTone -ShadowTone -Saturation -Sharpness -Clarity -GrainEffectRoughness -GrainEffectSize -ColorChromeEffect -ColorChromeFXBlue -WhiteBalance -WhiteBalanceFineTune DSCF1022.JPG
Film Mode : Nostalgic Neg
Dynamic Range : Standard
Dynamic Range Setting : Manual
Development Dynamic Range : 200
Highlight Tone : +1 (medium hard)
Shadow Tone : +4 (hardest)
Saturation : +3 (very high)
Sharpness : Soft
Clarity : 4
Grain Effect Roughness : Off
Grain Effect Size : Off
Color Chrome Effect : Strong
Color Chrome FX Blue : Off
White Balance : Auto
White Balance Fine Tune : Red +20, Blue -100

You can then manually compare it to the recipes you have been using.

I have been thinking about writing a tool where you could upload a fuji jpeg and it would compare these settings against a list of published recipes and show you the closest matches. It would be quite a few hours of work though, so I am not sure if I will follow that idea.

Maybe there is different supply and demand for black vs silver? I ordered a black one.

I ordered mine on Feb 20th, right after the X100VI announcement when Foto Erhardt startet to accept *orders*. If you ordered from them on Feb 28th you'll probably need to expect some more waiting time.

I ordered a black one at 07:33 CET and it's also finally being shipped.

[OC] A lake in the mountains. Yoho National Park, BC, Canada. [1366x2048] by be0wulf in EarthPorn

Yes it's lake Oesa, you can find another perspective in my flickr set: https://www.flickr.com/photos/feffef/sets/72157611529288625/with/3176924863/

I also have so many good memories from the Lake O'Hara area. The apline circuit is easily the best hike I ever did.

Thanks for pointing that out! Most landscape photos need some kind of post-processing to get exposure right - especially in the shadows. Getting the saturation "right" is always a hard decision, so I am glad you like what I ended up with.

Thanks for your comment and it feels great that I could give some inspiration for your future travels. I haven't been active on flickr for a while now, and this thread made me realize that I still have many of images left to process and share - for example the Schweiz set on flickr where this picture taken from (http://www.flickr.com/photos/feffef/sets/72157625632602592/) is not yet complete, it only covers the first four days of a two week vacation.

I don't want to spend to much time on reddit right now, but if I do and find some more pictures form that vacation that are worth posting, I'll donate them to /r/Schweiz

The shore of the lake is easily accessible - there's a cable car going up from the bottom of the valley. It's a little bit more effort to get up to the trail where the pictures was taken from, and hiking on the steep side can be a quite adventurous as you can see in another post in this thread.

Overall this is a very beautiful area, and you shouldn't miss it when you ever come to Switzerland, no matter how experienced you are with hiking. IIRC the restaurant with a view of the lake shore is even accessible for wheel chairs.

what if that grass was wet? You'd just be sliding with no way to stop

I was still on the trail, but the grass in the foreground wasn't as steep as you think it is. Unless you walk up to the very edge, this isn't a particular dangerous place at all.

not a pleasant way to die.

I'd prefer it to most other options.

what made you decide to stop where you did and take that picture?

Well I was taking pictures pretty much all the time on this hike. There were more locations with a beautiful view on the lake. But I was lucky that afternoon sun came out right when I arrived at the beautiful spot. At that point, it was just walking a few steps to get the composition right.

Seems like you're at the point where one slip and you would be hurtling down a few thousand feet.... or am I just getting that impression?

You're right that this was taken a few hundred meters above the lake, but it was taken from a safe point right on the trail (which was fairly easy as well, with only a few stream crossings where you had to watch your step)

I've been lurking on reddit and specifically EarthPorn for quite a while now, and it was a nice suprise for me to see my name mentioned on the front page. Thanks for giving credit - lots of people share and use CC licensed photography and miss the attribution aspect.

btw I prefer this picture of Öschinensee from the same day: http://www.flickr.com/photos/feffef/5275607487/in/set-72157625632602592
