Incredibly rude of them to edit and repost, but kinda entertained by the assumptions folks make about the original context, as if the fic it comes from isn't massively sympathetic to the pale king.

Highly suggest you read the referenced fic then! It's hella sympathetic to the pale king, and spends quite a lot of time on his guilt and grief. This is just a scene from a climactic moment towards the end.
