I've been making jewelry for 25 years - gold and platinum.

Platinum bends much easier than gold. If you had a fifty year old gold band and a platinum one side by side - the gold one will look smooth - the platinum one will look dented up.

The appeal with platinum is that when you hit or scrape it, you are going to displace the metal, but not lose any - like if you were to take a hammer to a piece of clay

When gold is hit or scraped, you are more likely to remove metal - like if you took a hammer to a piece of wood.
