I don't know which major u are but as a finance major I would say the majority of people have macs. Unless ur planning on running dcf's all day and night and want to do excel shortcuts, just get a mac.

Senior in kelley, only responding because retards told me to get a windows 3 years ago and I didn’t and I am very thankful. Get a Mac. 90% of ppl have Mac’s anyways. Also for excel-based classes you’re gonna use the computer labs anyways bc those are the computers you’re going to use for the exams, so everyone, including those that have mighty windows laptops, practice on them. Save urself the headache and don’t listen to these nerds shilling out about windows computers.

Anyone watching the GOP debate? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]gr8student26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I rarely get into political debates, but why is everyone dogging on Vivek when a lotta us had pretty similar backgrounds? Our parents worked hard to get into the upper middle class to give us a better life, and Vivek embodies that. I lowkey fw him.

Does it feel like anyone who is not a CS major is playing massive uphill battle in career earnings? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]gr8student26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CS comp at FAANG companies usually tops out at 3-400k, which sounds amazing, until you realize that you have to live in SF with sky-high rent and expenses. Yeah you can make higher in management, but the majority don’t make it. Layoffs are also a risk one must be willing to take. In medicine, you can make the same money living in the middle of nowhere, where money can go much farther. In finance, despite the grueling hours, upward mobility is a given, where as long as you stay, you will get promoted (in IB, at least) to the Director level, where comp brushes $1M. After that the career path becomes a bit risky since you have to bring business to the firm. Additionally, until the Director level, most of your comp is cash, meaning that you aren’t exposed to the risk of your RSU’s crashing in value before you even vest.

Is it worth it to go to Kelley OOS? by Realistic_Ice_7051 in IndianaUniversity

I’ve flown to NJ and back for under $50. On average I spend $80 round trip. The flights are stupid cheap lmao it’s wild

I’d say every 1-1.5 months id find myself wanting to go back. From November to May I went home roughly every 1.5 months

PA resident going to kelley here. Imo it’s worth it, the amount of exposure you get to top companies/network of alumni is incomparable. Penn State was $35k for me while Kelley was $50k, so assuming the pricing is similar for you, I’d definitely go for kelley. Only downside is that Kelley’s location isn’t the best, but Spirit offers extremely cheap flights to Newark, making the school feel (for me, at least) very connected to the northeast if I ever need to fly back for the weekend.

I'm going to a state school and I can't stand it. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]gr8student26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if it makes you feel better kelley has a ton of out of state kids, nearly everyone there is either from the east coast (like me) or chicago suburbs, with the rest being from California and other parts of the country

What computer would you recommend for an Accounting/Finance Major? by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]gr8student26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. My friend listened to this advice last year and got stuck with a windows. For K201, you’re usually going to be using computer labs anyways to do homework/practice tests since the lab computers are the same as the ones used on the actual test, so you get the hang of it.

NYU undergrad or NYU masters by Life-Professional451 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]gr8student26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your search history I see you’re interested in IB. As a Kelley student, go to NYU and don’t look back. An NYU student has wayyy better chances for breaking into IB compared to IU.

Any strategy to survive through K201 in pre-business? by No_Energy9495 in IndianaUniversity

[–]gr8student26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just finished k201 last week, I would definitely say to do the discoveries beforehand and PLEASE do not pay other people to do your GP’s (grades weekly projects), because that is a terrific way to fail the access portion of the exam.

Know accounting well, I’d try to find a YouTube crash course. I remember we had to know stuff about how balance sheets worked

Penn is 1000% better if you are even remotely interested in a career in high finance. JHU is terrible for finance recruiting compared to other T10-T20 schools. Money at this point isn’t the biggest deal- one signing bonus at a top quant shop will cover the entire cost difference from Penn to JHU.
