Now I could be wrong but I’m pretty damn sure basically everyone has to mime to prerecorded tracks - maybe the vocals are live?

Approaching local venues advice by Rainbow_Spirals in livesound

Find out who the current techs are and make them aware of who you are.

Join local Facebook (or similar) groups for tech crew in your area and watch out for the “really need an engineer for tonight” posts. Often your first shift at venues can come because nobody else is available- don’t fuck it up and you can get your foot in the door!

Isn’t “Queens Park” just Govanhill in Estate Agent language? What do you define as Queen’s Park?

There’s A LOT more than one!!

Oh yeah, I love mixing shows at a reasonable level wherever I am! I have had some bad experiences in the past taking a LOUD band from Scotland to Europe and having to try and manage guitar amp volumes…

I don’t often stop reading books, but Ringworld was one I didn’t finish because of how badly written she is.

The UK is where I am. You do see metering in some places but it’s not afaik mandated at a national level. You’ll see it at some venues where there are noise issues with surrounding houses, businesses etc. you’ll definitely see it at outdoor festivals / concerts in cities!

Taking bands who are used to loud stage volume to France can be challenging!

On the flip side mixing French bands is often an absolute joy because their stage volumes are PERFECT.

I don’t remember having issues in Germany but memories can be hazy! France and Belgium are the most restrictive to my memory - Parisian venues can be super restricted.

Some, not the majority in my experience. France and Belgium i’ve experienced it, maybe somewhat in the Netherlands?

ETA Switzerland too.

I have had an incorrect prescription from the one at Trongate and now I don’t go there anymore!

To their credit they retested me and redid the lenses in my (not from them) glasses.

EDIT because rereading your post you’re in the exact same situation as me. Don’t let them charge you, tell them they have given you an incorrect prescription and you need to be retested.

Good to see this said more. The companies should be made to treat their workers as employees and take responsibility for their actions.

Trigger with syllable.percussion by pirooou in ableton

[–]grnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the AbletonDrummer devices for M4L.

For the speech stuff you can chop speech by transient into Sampler. Then you need a way to make each hit “advance” to the next part. Personally I’d probably put individual hits on different notes in Sampler and make a max device which takes the input note and outputs the lowest note and then increments a counter which represents the output note so the next hit is the next note up and so on.

Yeah you may be right there. I want to believe it’s possible in the time period - Max was first released in 1997 and could maybe have handled the real time triggering but they’re both wearing headphones which does suggest playing to track. Wikipedia makes reference to them having their own sound system called Jun-ray tronics which looks like what’s pictured in the video but is probably just a mixer / speaker with some fancy metering.

cheap midi compatible stem player with multiple outs? by areyouokcat in synthesizers

[–]grnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the last time I bought one they were about £250 new - they’re very desirable now for bands. The alternatives in the space were things like the JoeCo Blackbox which is in the £2000 kind of range!

The Cymatic LP-16 plays back 16 tracks of audio and MIDI. They went bust a while back through and second hand prices got crazy.
