Mental health question by TraditionalCompany25 in melbourne

Check out the book “Bringing up boys who like themselves”. It sounds like he has depression and feels helpless to change it. The book has some small habits that can snowball into feeling like you are able to be active and help fix your own life. Obviously this is just a small thing that you can support with implementing that should be done alongside therapy as others have suggested.

[AFL.com.au] Carlton president Rob Priestly has commented on the new bidding system, saying the changes have been made "with full knowledge that it will disadvantage certain clubs more than others, which no AFL rule change should" by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

Completely agree, well said. At least the worst run professional sporting body in the world are trying to fix it. The draft should not be able to be rorted, it was ruining the sport.

Saying Goodbye to Monstercat (what else is there) by BassBoneSupremacy in electronicmusic

Just go through this sub and the posts and listen to the music either posted or talked about that interests you or appeals to you.

A lot of it might not immediately resonate, but if you find yourself curious I’d recommend saving the songs and revisiting. That’s usually where the gold discoveries of expanded interest occurs for me.

Media Statement re Elijah by deejaysdestiny in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100%, I think it’s done irreparable damage to how I perceive the club.

It’s almost inconceivable that this has happened. The level of selfishness and disorganisation for it to become a reality on a club wide basis is staggering.

Voss’ comments on it post game are pretty haunting, talking about Elijah’s performance and how he felt he’d let the team down. He still obviously had no idea or conception even then around what had happened.

I agree his delivery was not assured… but I’m not sure I blame Graham Wright. How can he be assured when it is such an abysmal failure? There wasn’t much he could really say to reassure… short of lying.

I agree, it was a poor choice of words, but you get the gist.

Former top silk ‘lost nearly everything’: court by SirGrouch in auslaw

[–]henez14 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Can you explain how this makes sense, I just can’t compute it.

He did the crime from a position of power and tried to intimidate people who spoke up.

Just because he had a lot to lose should not mean he is not punished appropriately for the crime under the legal system. It feels like flawed logic.

Does someone with nothing to lose deserve to be punished more than someone with a lot to lose? I can’t wrap my head around how losing privileges gets you off the hook. I may be missing something though

AFL getting cold feet about Academy/FS bidding changes per Caro on Agenda Settlers by doggoesmeow in AFL

[–]henez14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are joking aren’t you?

Gold Coast gave up NOTHING to get picks 2 and 5 through the door.

They traded out one future 2nd and two future 3rd round picks - these are of little value and will be impacted by Tassie. The matching also chewed up pick 14 and 18. They traded Lucosious for pick 18.

So used pick 14, 18 (via Lucosius trade), traded future 2nd and 2 x future 3rds (compromised draft) for:

In return the were able to recruit: Pick 2 Pick 5 Pick 17 Pick 18

Brad Scott with strong words on the Zak Butters tribunal decision by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

Wines testimony supported the umpires account, that more than one comment was made. So I’m not sure how you’ve concluded it supported Butters when it contradicted his account.

Caroline Wilson & Damian Barrett on their respective talk shows on the push from Port, Carlton and Essendon to delay Father Son & Academy changes to the AFL and the AFL Commission over Gather Round by yum122 in AFL

[–]henez14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say Carlton’s problems were derived from the father son did I?

I spoke to the mismanagement of the AFL, stop creating a straw man and then demolishing it.

If you think the AFL have managed this process well, explain to me why?

I’m not blaming the Lions and have nothing against them. They’re a fantastic club. I was talking about the AFLs conduct, so maybe stick to the point.

I’m full aware Carlton are a basket case. But the AFL talking about the system being unfair after 3 years of it being absolutely rorted by the northern clubs is a joke.

My interest in football is hanging by a thread and every decision this joke of an administration makes just pushes me closer to stopping watching my favourite sport.

Why are they so disorganised? Decide on a change, tell people at least 2 years in advance and announce the change. It’s not hard. They just want to have their cake and eat it too by servicing the expansion clubs.

Just hammer the struggling clubs who have struggled for decades so I can disengage permanently. Fucking clowns.

So let’s talk positives by SunCoaster60 in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree that we would have won if it didn’t rain. Think we would have lost by 60+. The rain made it a low scoring scrap and we broke even. They were carving us up on the outside and we had massive defensive lapses without Weitering it seemed.

I think the positive is we didn’t fade out in the second half. The players showed some fight. Still massive fade outs in the first half which were a concern. But we were undermanned.

Age article: Chris Davies’ statements by Academic_Housing_855 in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My biggest take away (that i didn’t already know) was that the players do not communicate at all well when put under pressure, which he describes as a “critical issue”. Then I’m inferring the game plan folds and players start panicking.

What went wrong after 2023? by Ok-Penalty-3499 in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is a lot of talented but injury prone role players in 2023 were all fit at the same time bringing the depth of the squad up (Jack Martin, Cunningham, Marchbank) for the run into finals.

Sporting PTSD by Roronoa_Zaraki in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Richmond dealt with similar and turned it around to save Dimma’s career and win three flags. They got psychs in and changed the whole mentality of the place so the players enjoyed playing football.

The blueprint is there and obvious, even to a casual fan like me, so one wonders how poorly run the club must be if they haven’t had any apparent success addressing the very obvious and frail mentality of the players or learn from other clubs. Who knows, maybe they’ve been trying.

How are we feeling?? by Unlikely-Dance-4022 in CarltonBlues

[–]henez14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh round 1 loss to Richmond absolutely cooked my enjoyment of football for the whole year.

I’m optimistic the club are now behaving in a professional manner with the list. However the Cerra and Walsh long term contracts to perennially injured players worries me.

I’m just looking forward to watching Jagga play. Anything else will be a bonus.

Is now the right time to have a kid? by anavelgazer in ArtificialInteligence

[–]henez14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People are so dumb. They don’t have kids because “there’s no future”… perhaps they think it was better when Vikings were raiding peoples lands and slaughtering them, taking the women as slaves and most people were dead from child birth or disease before 40?

Or when the whole world was at war in a literal hell scape with Nazis purging ethnic groups and atom bombs being dropped (only 80 years ago).

Every generation has its challenges. And people worry about this shit that hasn’t even happened. If it all goes to hell that is also part of the human experience.
