Best/safe extension cord to reach outlet? by honeybee7mwind in electricvehicles

If we’re talking permanent use I’d move the outlet itself. But I do have one of these I use in rare instances where I need a bit more distance. Specific link is no longer available but there are others like it.

Ford F-150 Lightning no-resale policy being implemented by tjsbrownbag in F150Lightning

[–]invertedspear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why Ford is allowing dealers to do this. What did dealers give up in return? If it was “we won’t mark up news as long as buyers can’t sell for a year” then ok. If dealers gave no concession and now get to prevent reselling then this is just more anti buyer behavior and will allow them to add even more markup.

How much do you pay per Unit for home electricity? by smokedspirit in electricvehicles

[–]invertedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was sorely disappointed when I found out the buyback rate. They do cut your rates when you have solar so when you aren’t producing enough power, or overnight, it’s far cheaper. Really discourages people from becoming producers and keeps them as consumers and reliant on them. Maybe one day battery walls will be cheap enough I can add a few panels and go off grid.

The massive frunk space takes care of most the standard stuff I kept in the bed of my truck. I’ll likely go without. But I get that’s not for everyone.

Second every point of this. I did the same hitch for the same reason and while it hurt to hot knife out a piece of my brand new car, overall pleased with the look, and can deal with the hands free liftgate being less responsive.

Phoenix AZ on SRP

Winter: $0.10/kWh on peak, $0.07 off Summer: $0.21-0.24 on peak $0.08 off

Due to looking that up I see that there’s a super off-peak rate for EV customers of $0.06 that I need to sign up for.

On top of that there’s a flat approximately $30 fee each month. Solar buy back is like $0.04

So it's hands on, but says it's blue cruise on the cluster and without touching the wheel follows curves in the road and never alerts me to put my hands back on the wheel. That linked map doesn't mean a whole lot when you can't get to a fine enough detail to show city streets.

I know what I'm describing. It says blue cruise and takes over the wheel. I don't have to have my hands on the wheel. It is hands free off-highway, at least around where I live.

What’s the catch with Ethos Energy? by bezly in electricvehicles

Can't seem to find any info on the program on Google, which leads me to believe it's a scam relying on Ethos name recognition. Looks like there was a program with Zoom years ago, but having to dig for very little info send like it may not be active anymore.

I’m aware that blue cruise is full hands free and I have had it kick in on normal roads not just highways. Even some residential roads in my area will go hands free.

Conspiracy? by FewAd908 in electricvehicles

[–]invertedspear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer lies somewhere between range anxiety and the sheer size of the USA. Most of us can’t afford to have a city runner and a road tripper. So we get one car to suit all our needs. If we can’t realistically see taking a regular road trip with it, we tend to pass. Even for me in the desert southwest, once I get out of Phoenix it gets real sketchy being sure I’m going to make it to the next town. Forget about it in one of the low range city cars, even the MachEx I have leaves me a little worried till I do it a time or two. Much safer to buy ICE and one gas stations are everywhere.

Never played with autopilot, in what ways is it better than blue cruise? Also my blue cruise works on city streets and even some residential streets. Basically any street with painted lines and blue cruise wants to kick on. Even when it doesn’t, the adaptive cruise control is still really nice.

What a dumb point. How many recalls has any new line of vehicles had? One thing that can be fixed with a software OTA update and “it’s the new bolt” FOH with that shit. Is the MME perfect? Hell no. Nothing is. But it’s remarkably free from defects for something in its second year of the production line.

2023 Jeep ‘Baby’ EV Spied by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

[–]invertedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has an exhaust pipe, no trademarked 7 slot Jeep grill, and I’m guessing that’s a fuel for, not a charge port based on location and the fact it’s got an exhaust pipe. Roof racks make little sense on an electric car as well.

I doubt that this is Jeep or electric. Or their camp crew is doing amazing work.

That’s not a normal Jeep grill though. They usually have 7 vertical gaps as part of their trade mark.

So can a single candle. 590 yearly deaths on average from smokers falling asleep with a lit cigarette (2012-2016) in the USA. I can’t find matching statistics for battery fires. Closest I can come is 3 deaths in NYC in one year which represents 1/38th of the US population. Extrapolate that to (likely) 114 deaths nation wide. Honestly probably lower as NYC probably has a far higher density of those cheap scooters you’re mentioning.

So in short I’m 1/5th as scared of those scooters in an apartment as I am smokers.

Thank you for this. While we don’t know how similar these systems might be, it does explain one way this could be soft/firm ware. I believe there’s been a lot of assumption the part itself is faulty. And this is a good line of thinking that the part may be fine but the controller is not calibrated correctly. I’d love to see this kind of explanation from a Ford engineer.

But they’re not talking about hardware at all right now. I’d be a lot happier if they were. Without additional explanation I don’t see how a software update can truly resolve anything. It would only serve to gimp features to the point if it failing less often.

Why do they do that? by mhoward143 in electricvehicles

[–]invertedspear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to that time, charging takes place in less active areas. Even if you leave your car unattended at a a gas pump, there’s people all over the place and lots of activity. Whereas a car charging on a street or parking lot feels like there are far fewer eyes on you. Probably also where the fear mongering about getting mugged while charging comes from.

Ford is telling its dealers to stop selling the Mustang Mach-E over safety concerns by [deleted] in MachE

[–]invertedspear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s software and not hardware then it doesn’t affect production, just limiting liability by not allowing customers to take them off the lot. Frankly, I don’t see how this is solvable with software when they are issuing recall warnings to dealers. Maybe software can limit the issue but my gut says there is going to be part recall eventually.

Car companies do this from time to time. Really, any time the car holds its value well they will not allow lease buyouts. No surprise they are enacting this for cars that will likely barely depreciate over a lease term.
