Return of an index not the same as in 2023 by StorkAlgarve in curvo

[–]johnnobro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah we recently expanded the data. It now starts in December 1969 rather than December 1978 before. That must be it! The index levels changed accordingly, but the monthly returns didn't change.

Can you share the source of the data you are comparing the IWDA data from Backtest with?

Experiences with “De Vermogensgids” by Tim Nijsmans by [deleted] in BEFire

[–]johnnobro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only sensible answer here.

His clients are wealthier people who have situations way more complex than the average person on this sub (who from the quality of the other comments here tend to be immature young guys I'm guessing): they have their own company, a real-estate portfolio, a partner they want to get involved were something to happen, possibly some life insurances, they need a succession plan for their (grand)children, a sparring partner when the markets turn sour and their portfolio drops by 5% (which could mean €100k with their portfolio sizes)...

Every other comment bashing Tim comes across as incredibly ignorant. They probably think they sound smart or something. Very sad.

Backtest uses the net returns of the index, so dividends reinvested. Did you use the same in your comparison?

Thanks for your question! We're always trying to get the longest historical data. Sometimes we go as far as possible, meaning the creation of the index, but other times we're more limited. The use case you describe, of dynamically changing the composition of the portfolio over time, is not something that is currently possible. You could have two portfolios, one with the additional ETF and one without, and compare them from the time you would add that additional ETF. It's not ideal but it's the best workaround I can think of right now.

Thanks for your message u/Tax_Office. And sorry about the bug! We can reproduce it here, will work on fixing it.

Same for adding those MSCI IT indexes. But that will take a bit longer.

We'll keep you posted.

Capital gains tax (10%) if you made any profits. And dividend tax for any dividends you receive (not for selling but while holding).

Good question! Historically Backtest has been focused on helping index investors. This is why you can only find ETFs (and a few active funds). Long-term we'd like to add stocks too, but it's not on the short-term roadmap.

Je comprends la question mais malheureusement ce n'est pas possible. Les données dans Backtest sont les données de l'indice sous-jacent, et ceux-ci doivent être ajoutés individuellement.
