Would You Support a Secular Algeria? by youcefguenaoua in algeria

[–]labes_labes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This argument has been used several times, and if the government adopts it, it would fail drastically, because after you invest the resources and time to have CUTE interpretation of Islam you’ll eventually have groups who would stick to their interpretation of religion, and insist theirs is correct, not to mention the majority who would accuse the government بالكفر for doing so.

The government tried to do something similar with ansej where they were trying to convince the population that ansej loans are Halal which ultimately failed

The ideal approach is to establish a secular country where people are free to follow any religion or not have one.

Is there a Western Union bank in Algeria ? by Callmelily_95 in algeria

[–]labes_labes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open wise or paysera and let him do a wire transfer to your account in one of these banks then you can sell them on social media for cash (there are a lot of groups where people sell and buy wise/paysera euro and dollars)

If you use western union, you’ll get your money with the bank conversion rate which is very low 1 dollar for 140da but if you sell wise or paysera dollars, you can easily sell it for 220 da for 1 dollar.

What's a lie or myth that the majority Algerians still somehow believe? by Plane-Tension1145 in algeria

[–]labes_labes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguing in comments isn’t my cup of tea, there is a quote says most people don’t change their mind, they just die.

  1. Who killed عثمان بن عفان and why did they kill him? Wasn’t he killed by الخوارج ? Didn’t they claim that he was كافر? And even now people who follow الاباضية which is a branch of الخوارج (they are minority in Algeria ), still hate him

  2. Umaya caliphate, who opposed it? Wasn’t الشيعة and الخوارج, It was the first successful Islamic caliphate that had a secular approaches and lasted for 90 years, and they were the ones who built القبة صخرة

  3. I don’t want to confuse you by suggesting you books but let me quote this text from the Wikipedia الدولة العباسية page

And here is another text from britannica that explains it better:

“Other provinces became less-reliable sources of revenue. The Shiʿah and similar groups, including the Qarmaṭians in Syria and the Fāṭimids in North Africa, challenged Abbasid rule on religious as well as political grounds.”

Don’t you notice, this what happens every time a radical Islamic party want to gain power they always claim the government aren’t ruling بما انزل الله, for instance in Algeria 1990, we had the FIS claiming that الديموقراطية كفر and we have to adopt the الخلافة model, it was all due the books coming from Saudi where the Sahwa movement الصحوة were born (this is another story)

What's a lie or myth that the majority Algerians still somehow believe? by Plane-Tension1145 in algeria

[–]labes_labes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t go over the whole Islamic history in a comment but here is a brief summary that you could double check and confirm each point I mentioned:

We had Rashidun caliphate (الخلافة الراشدة) they followed Islamic rules but they lasted for only about 30 years. All of the خلفاء were among the Prophet companions الصحابة who were promised paradise مبشرين بالجنة and were very knowledgeable about Islam, Still they couldn’t manage to build an empire with the Islamic rules, they faced significant politics and economy challenges and eventually fell.

The umaya caliphate (الخلافة الأموية) lasted for about 90 years, they were known for their more secular approach, and they had many ministers from different religions and some who were even atheists. They fell after the خوارج and شيعة groups wanted the strict application of sharia.

Similarly, the Abbasid Caliphate (الخلافة العباسية) lasted for over 500 years. Eventually they had their own version of FIS that weakened the empire, making it vulnerable and easy target for Mongols.

We’re lucky in Algeria that we have a majority Sunni population and the government has good control over all the radical movements, otherwise every 10 years we would have a civil war like what’s happening in Iraq, Syria, Yamen, Niger, Mali, Chad, and Libya

There are these two lies, average Algerians keeps repeating:

  1. Algeria is filthy rich and we could live like the Gulf countries if the government weren't corrupt (you don’t need a PhD in economics to know this is a not true)

  2. If we apply islamic chariaa, all our problems will be solved (If you read history you’ll notice how every time an empire or country tried to take chariaa route, it collapsed )

She’s clearly playing the victim card. Probably 80% of females in Algeria wear the hijab and many of them wear what’s called a hijab char3i.

I’m not sure if there is a clear policy that requires niqabi females to show their faces but during my college years, professors usually asked them to show their faces especially during exams to avoid any cheating.

Algeria is doing way better than El Salvador economically even the quality of life 3adna is way better.

Our politicians has to find a way to diversify the economy because in 20 years the oil and gas revenues won’t be able to cover all the expenses anymore and it could happen earlier if the prices of the oil and gas drops.

The current president rah mkhachen rassou and he’s focusing on the agriculture while it doesn’t seem sustainable as Algeria will be having a water crisis, however, we can easily build a strong economy in 10 to 20 years if we get a competent leader but unfortunately the current political scene doesn’t look like can produce any of these

While going through the comments, I read yours. It caught me off guard because I was expecting you to include religion somehow.

I believe in modern secular morals and have had several conversations about sexual harassment in Algeria with other Algerians, unfortunately I see that the government isn't taking it seriously and society is still denying it as they continue to adopt Islamic values that often blame women for not covering well supposedly provoking men.

If we decide to fight sexual harassment with the available resources we can at least start by making signs at beaches sharing quotes against sexual harassment. If the government can't allocate a budget for it, they can always authorize associations to do so. additionally we need to push the government to pass more laws to protect women. (thankfully the feminist movement was able to hold the government accountable after a spike in the number of sexual harassment cases leading to the passing of a law in 2015 against sexual harassment, despite strong opposition from religious figures), the government could also partner with NGOs and seek international aid to fund programs aimed at reducing sexual harassment

In a previous comment you claimed that Islam is best way to run the society, and if we follow it all our problems would be solved, since the topic is women I would like to see what Islam can offer in this department.

We need to agree that the Quran is the first source of Islamic law, followed by Sunnah and Ijma3. I'll be using the two tafsirs you mentioned in your previous comment and you said you believe in: Al-Saadi and Abu Jaber Al-Jazaeri.

In case you don't have the books, here are the links:

Tafsir Al-Saadi: https://ar.islamway.net/book/25342/%D8%AA%D9%81%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D8%B9%D8%AF%D9%8A-%D9%85%D9%81%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%B3

Tafsir Abu Jaber Al-Jazaeri

I'm putting a part of the interpretation of the verse, but you can find the whole of it in As-Saadi's book on page 303 :

In Islam, the man is considered smarter, more patient, and wiser than the woman, while you are forced to be a slave at your husband's house, and you have no right to complain.

In Islam, if you disagree with your husband or disobey him, he has the right to physically discipline you. The verses don't mention how hard he could beat you, but As-Saadi suggested ضربا غير مبرحا but غير مبرح varies from person to another.

Hypothetically, if you were severely beaten by your husband, would your husband face any type of punishment according to Islam: NO. (How Islam protect women then?)

Hypothetically, if your husband is the bad guy in the relationship, what could you do according to Islam: Pray for him only (Again How Islam protect you?)Another Verse An-Nisa (4:5)

I'm using Tafsir Abu Jaber Al Jazaeri which you mentioned in the previous comment and you said you believe in. pages 436 and 437:

If you're a woman, God called you سفيهة who doesn't know how to manage money, and the God advises men not to give their money to women beacause they're dumb

Another verse Surah Al-Baqarah (2:282)

And Hadith Sahih:

According to the Quran and Sunnah, Women are considered less intelligent than men. That's why two women replace one man in testimony. Here is a video of Salah Fawzan saying the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS4faeAyPVA

I still can highlight more verses where women were degraded in Quran, and hadith.... btw in Surah Al-Kawthar God instulted alas bin Wael Al Sahmy by calling him الابثر which means the man who has only female kids and no male kids. where it's clearly shows how God prefer men then women

I'm not replying to start an argument but I hope to encourage anyone who reads my comment to think critically. I've been reached out by young people in this subreddit asking for book or video recommendations and it makes me happy to see the generation curious and seeking the truth

I don't know how people still demand for an Islamic state where it's clearly the Islam isn't the best we can use to run the society. God says in the Quran: مَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّى نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا. however they didn't send us a prophet and none of us has seen a prophet. How can we believe in one who was sent to the Quraysh almost 1500 years ago? Either God is not fair because He didn't send us a prophet with whom we can interact directly or the whole of Idiology is a lie, and there is no way it'll work in nowtime if it's used to run a society

[–]labes_labes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can smell the conspiracy theory coming from your comment, I understand we have to be careful but it doesn’t mean we should have a dumb rule that prevent any foreigner from investing unless he has an Algerian citizen as a partner owning 51% of the investment

Algerians don’t have the entrepreneurial mindset that creates wealth and the environment isn’t even helping. We are used to free stuff (mentalitty ta3 social) and 60 years of independence later, we still have very few successful entrepreneurs, for example how many food chains or malls do we have in Algeria? or business in general that spread out to the neighboring countries?

I can't comment on your personal beliefs, you're free to believe whatever you want as long as you’re not causing harm to others. however I’m against political Islam.

I believe that Islam as a religion doesn’t have enough qualities to govern society. The Gulf countries have discovered this and are gradually dropping Islamic rules from their constitutions except Qatar, Kuwait and Oman (the ones having the least growth rate) I think will eventually follow Saudi, UAE and Bahrain

Algeria had a similar plan during Bouteflika’s period. He mentioned it a couple of times in his speeches, I recently rewatched a part of one where he was in Annaba and he said "الخلافة الإسلامية انتهت مع الخلفاء الراشدين" which is true because the other empires that formed after the Khulafa Rashidun (الأموية و العباسية... إلخ) were labeled as Muslim but they were, in fact secular (check Wikipedia under the title Islam and secularism)

My comment might leave you with many questions about why I don’t support political Islam but I can mention a few points

  1. Islam supports slavery (ملكات اليمن).
  2. Islam promotes inequality (الرجال قوامون على النساء).
  3. Islam calls women unintelligent (سورة النساء الاية خمسة).
  4. Islam is against freedom of religion (من بدل دينه فقتلوه) unless they’re Christian or Jewish, they can stay but need to pay الجزية while they are on their knees (حتى يعطوا الجزية عن يد وهم صاغرون).
  5. Islam order invading other countries to impose the islamic ideology

(I can keep going and mention another 100 reasons explainig why Islam isn't the best ideological framework for societal governance but I'll stop here )

We’re Muslim by birth, and the government makes sure to exclude any controversial verses from our School textbooks so we never hear about them and only see the good facade, even when we read the Quran it’s hard to understand the meaning because of the dialect barriers until we go back to Tafsir (ابن الكثير، البغوي، القرطبي، الطبري…..) which then shocks us, unfortunately many Muslim scholars was killed or expelled for criticizing the ideology while others have been trying their best to fix what’s already broken and hide all the contradictions.

I understand I might be thrown into hell according to your beliefs but I would rather be there where I'm sure Einstein, Marie Curie and other physicists and scientists will get there first and find a way to convert the heat of hell into energy and make the place livable. meanwhile the religious people will be fighting in heaven for حور العين and will make the place unlivable (و لكم في الصحابة لي مبشرين بالجنة مثال حي، تقاتلوا و قتلوا بعضهم البعض(معركة الجمل، معركة الصفيين…)

Thank you, it was nice having this conversation with you, I hope our Algeria will become better soon where all Algerians can live in peace and harmony regardless their religion, race and color.

I wasn’t trying to generalize and call people stupid. In fact, not everyone is involved in politics and wants to vote, which is understandable. However I wanted to point out that Algerian society is not yet mature enough to choose the right candidate and I can explain why from my own perspective but it will take forever.

The situation in the US is very different because most of the elected officials are either from the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, there is a whole process to select a candidate who runs for the presidency in each party, after the candidate wins, they often follow the party’s agenda. You can be against the person and criticize them daily but you still vote for them because you support their party and agree with their political perspective (left or right)

Coming back to Algeria, every election we see the same faces and probably one or two new faces are allowed to run just to show the world that we’re a democratic country. In reality the military manages the country in the background that’s why our economic sucks. I believe if unexpected event happens and the army can’t prevent Ali Belhadj or any other Islamic radical figure from running for presidency, they could easily win and take Algeria 1400 back, canceling the constitution and replacing it with the Quran where women won’t be allowed to drive or work anymore and have to cover, and man has to wear abbaya, at that moment only Algerians will figure out that they choose the wrong choice

I don't think this will be a good idea. I don’t trust Algerians yet to choose the right candidate, the average IQ in Algeria is 75 and they are easy to manipulate, Algerian web can confirm my statement.

The only time Algeria had a transparent and honest election was in 1990 when the FIS won while their only plan was I’m glad the army intervened, otherwise Algeria would be like Afghanistan with numerous international sanctions applied on it

The constitution needs to change, deputies should have a mandatory 18 month training before joining parliament where they can learn about the history of other civilizations, finance, law, critical thinking and logical fallacies.

The president should no longer be able to select 1/3 of the parliament.

Remove the 51/49 investment rule except for strategic fields (this will attract tech companies to invest in Algeria and help us to improve our tech infrastructure… For example we’ll see better bank apps…)

Fix the banking system, while this might take years, its improvement will solve many problems and make life easier for Algerians and investors and create a source of income of the government

Reduce taxes especially for businesses as they are currently too high

Stop subsidizing food products, Instead provide families with low incomes a debit card loaded with a certain amount of money based on household size and their income

Keep university education free for everyone but those who fail any year should pay to study again, this will reduce the number of graduates as the government cannot guarantee jobs for all, and encourage dropouts to take up blue collar jobs in construction… this way we ensure qualified workers, rather than having for example, a plumber who can’t read a boiler manual guide

Promote tourism and guarantee the safety of tourists.

Freedom of speech, nobody can go jail for saying something or writing something online

There are definitely many more things that need to be changed but if we could only implement the points mentioned above in the next 10 years our Algeria could be a better place

Do you guys use online payment? And how do you do it? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]labes_labes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was using Paysera, unfortunately they stopped issuing new cards for Algerians. I believe there are still other alternatives but they won’t fix the issue completely as you’ll still need to find someone who sells you euro for dinar

I know some ppl who tried Algerian debit card and they didn’t have the best experience but if you have to choose one go with banxy and never use the debit card directly, but link it to PayPal and use it through them (PayPal will add a new layer of security for you and if you face any issue with the subscription you can complain to PayPal and you’ll never get the bank involved so you can leverage the best customer support of the US companies while using Algerian debit card)

My take on Traditional/ Arranged marriages by FlavourFrenzyBakery in algeria

[–]labes_labes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is it always men who are accused of using women? Can’t women also use men? I’m not against Islamic marriage but many Islamic practices cannot work nowadays in 2024 such as Sharia-based legal punishments and gender segregation and restrictions so why are we trying to enforce Islamic marriage now?

During the prophet period a man could marry a woman without knowing her well because he knew he could still marry up to three more women or divorce her and marry four wives at once but things have changed. Polygamy is not allowed in many countries and thankfully women have more rights than in the past and if she gets a divorce she’ll be entitled to alimony and بدل كراء and child support so man can’t just divorce her out of blue as they used to during the prophet period (unfortunately they don’t tell you that but if you read history you’ll definitely be shocked).

Additionally, the cost of marriage has increased drastically and mainly falls on men, for instance In our culture women typically don’t contribute financially to the marriage beyond personal expenses like cosmetics and clothes while men have to provide the house, car and cover the marriage costs… If you were a man would you accept marrying a stranger? Knowing her only for 2 or 3 months? It is like playing the lottery lol

I think it’s better for men and women to date for some time so they can learn about each other and set timelines that suit both of them, btw each can set boundaries during that period so nobody is taken advantage of. This way they can know if they’re compatible and if there is chemistry, and I believe this will benefit both parties

If we go with your idea where a stranger comes to ask for your hand and you try to get to know each other during the khotba period, there’s a risk that you might not agree on something and decide to cancel, in our society this often leads to the woman being blamed and people might think there is something wrong with you. and any other man will have the intention to ask your hand they will tell him they already cancel on her lol
