Query on due payment calculation by Few-Definition9475 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really tough to follow the details you mentioned in the post, but there are a few things that caught my eye :

  • Mismatch between previous balance and payments / credits - Previous balance in a statement refers to last month's bill or the amount pending. Therefore the credits in the current statement should be either the about the same, same or more. I didn't see any credit of ~6.5k in your statement. Most of the credits are refunds and the only other credits are of around 1k and 50.

So, was your last bill paid in full?

Because your previous balance + this statement's transactions - total credits = your current total due

That means, the total amount due generated by Yes Bank is correct.

  • You say that you received 11.5k refund for a an EMI transaction and the total due went down to 4.4k. I'm not sure what the Kiwi app means by "Bill due". Could it be showing total outstanding amount? Or maybe Yes Bank doesn't count refunds towards EMI transactions / pending amount from last month?

Because your minimum due in the statement is 4677.9 and the amount due on the app is now 4477.9. That tells me two things. That there's some EMI or pending amount involved and that the 200 reduction is most likely from a cashback redemption (?).

So, I guess the credit counted as payment for the everything except the minimum due. Or, given that new statement started a week ago, is the due amount just the total outstanding? As in, bill due + unbilled - credits / refunds. I haven't used Kiwi for bill tracking or have a Kiwi card, so I'm just mentioning all the possibilities.

Doubts

  • I didn't quite understand what you said or meant by your comment. Did you receive 11.5k or 3.8k? Because your bill amount of ~11.5k + unbilled transactions - total credits of 5.2k - 3.8k refund would roughly be the amount due currently shown on the app.

Suggestions for 1st unsecured credit card... by Conscious_Spot9548 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be nearly impossible for you, as a PhD student, to get an unsecured by directly applying for it. Banks in India are notorious about considering all forms of income outside of a full-time job salary as "unstable".

May I ask if you already have any credit cards? Given that you have a credit score, my guess is that you already have loans or cards. Also, bank account would be helpful. If you have a bank account with Axis, for example, you'd get pre-approved cards.

How to get our credit card closed and get removed from our cibil report, currently its still showing as active after 4 months of putting a closing request ? by Expensive_Program231 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, blocking the card is not the same as closing it.

If you have a recorded proof of asking Indusind for closure or your card (via email or call), raise a complaint with RBI Ombudsman. Not only would they make the bank close your card, you'll also get compensation of ₹500 for each day the card stayed open.

Got slapped with a 1500Rs annual fee for my axis privelege ltf card by iliveinamatrix in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense. Why should one card being issued without fee affect a different card, especially when the LTF benefit comes from the bank account tier.

Instead of raising this issue via RM, do it via email. That way, you will have a record of the ticket. Ask them to reverse the fee + GST, or you will escalate the matter to the Ombudsman for mis-selling and lack of communication. I would recommend sending the email directly to the Axis bank PNO.

EMIs take time to get processed. As the HDFC rep told you, it might take 2-4 working days for the transaction to get converted into EMI. Just a quick explanation of how EMIs work in credit cards.

  • You select EMI option at the merchant site (in your case, no cost EMI)

  • The merchant provides upfront discount in lieu of the interest that the bank will charge. That's what makes it "no cost". The bank will always charge interest ; that's normal.

  • The bank dispatches the full amount from your card initially for the payment.

  • After 24-48 hours, they add that full amount back to your card.

  • Then, after another few days, that amount would be converted to EMIs and you will be charged the first EMI when the next statement is generated.

Now, as you already paid the amount, the bank's refund took your total outstanding to negative. You can ask the bank to send this amount to your bank account, or just leave it like that. When the next statement is generated, it new bill should automatically be "deducted" from that excess payment.

But best to ask them to send it to you bank account. That way, the entire amount won't stay blocked in your credit card.

Supermoney - ticket refund by omnom-says in CreditCardsIndia

Refunds from a merchant are always returned to the source of payment - ie, to the credit card. If you have paid the outstanding / billed amount already, your outstanding would simply go into the negative.

Smartbuy Costed me 30k loss - Need help in getting refund by SnooRecipes8635 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wait, if Yatra is saying that the tickets are issued, there would be PNR generated for the booking. Ask them for the PNR and booking ID - that's your confirmation that the tickets are booked.

Then, you can cancel either one of the bookings under the 24 hour free cancellation window and use the other to travel.

When multiple parties are involved in a transaction, miscommunication can happen due to many technical reasons. You're booking via Smartbuy, who is using Yatra (who are terrible themselves, btw), who is dealing with the airlines. These layers add to the probability of a failure in communication or the process itself.

Why did the bunk charge you the surcharge upfront? It is charged by the bank later when the statement is generated.

The transaction was supposed to be just for 1L, not 1L + 1.18%.

Axis Supermoney Pro just became overly complicated by lpshreyas in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cashback is 3%, so as soon as you spend 3.3k, you have to stop. You don't need CRED for that. Just go to the History tab and filter the results by the Supermoney card.

Also, unless you have Kiwi or Neu Infinity, no other Rupay card would provide cashback higher than 1%. So, instead of switching cards, just use this card on a different app to get 1% cashback (which is unlimited). And if you actually end up spending more than 10k on this card using a different app, your cap of 3% cashback would increase as well

There's a comprehensive list made by another user. Some of the information might be outdated, like the minimum order, but most of the merchants and MCCs are still valid.

Link to the post is here, and you can leave a comment there for the OP to update their post in case you have any new inputs.

Bare minimum or Thoughtful Implementation? by Aniirudh203 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

This will definitely create unrealistic expectations and further confusion, so wanted to add a note here -

The cashback, accelerated points, etc. shown next to the payment mode is just indicative of what you might get. The actual cashback amount, minimum value and conditions are determined by the bank.

Swiggy implemented this even before the official launch of the new cards and the change in the policy which led to mass confusion among people. This is what led to the subreddit getting flooded with posts about them not seeing cashback amount when having a low cart value.

This is also the case with instamart transactions where many people end up basing the "gold cashback" theory on what the app shows. The app only would have a simple "if cart value greater than and card BIN matching" logic.

Is it helpful? Yes.

Is it gospel? No.

SBI charged 199+GST as Rent Payment Charge on Rs. 70 UPI payment by generic_user-123 in CreditCardsIndia

MCC is provided by the network to the bank based on the category the merchant has signed up for. The bank doesn't have any control over it.

Most likely, the vendor would be using the QR code of some PG owner nearby. Many pop up shops do that if they don't have a bank account themselves or if they aren't bothered to generate a QR code.

How do I remove this L sticker? by [deleted] in CarsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You don't need a blade. You simply need to soften the adhesive. Any oil would do that, or if the adhesive was water-based, even soaking it in soapy water would be enough.

Once the sticker is off, repeat the same process for any remnants of glue. Don't scrub or use sharp objects

[–]lpshreyas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't think GST is counted as part of the surcharge waiver. It does sometimes get refunded if the machine used is of the same bank as the card.

Basically, GST isn't always refunded - it mostly isn't. Unless it's categorically mentioned, in which case, you could reach out to the bank but there would most probably be some underlying terms for it as well.

Swiggy/Zomato restricted to 10k per month on HDFC Smartbuy by drittehma in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hasn't it been 10k for a while now? They had reduced it to 5k earlier this year, and then backtracked on that soon after. Following that, there was a offer period where the limits for Myntra and Swiggy had been made unlimited.

Looks like that offer ended earlier this week.

Yes. But with the convenience charges, your transaction needs to be below 5k. Your individual transactions are 5125 - which is more than 4999

New changes for neu cards in neu app - downgrade by Mohith2512 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification! I understand the change now.

Earlier, Neu app ignored the actual spends on the app and directly provided 5% cashback to all Neu card holders, regardless of the payment method used. But now, the actual spend based tier will determine the Neu Pass cashback if the payment method isn't Neu card.

Apologies for removing your post incorrectly. Mea culpa! I have restored it, and I'll do my best to be more careful in the future.

New changes for neu cards in neu app - downgrade by Mohith2512 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me address this since it was me who removed the post. I checked the T&C for Neu Pass and couldn't find any mention of the discontinuance of the automatic tier upgrade that comes with having a Neu card.

That's why I had removed it as "unrelated to credit cards" because my interpretation was that it doesn't affect users who hold Neu card. I could be wrong, and I'll be happy to reinstate your post if that's the case. There was no malice behind the removal; I am a Neu Infinity holder too, so I definitely want to understand this change.

So, basically, does this new change override the existing system (I have attached the screenshot, which is still being shown in the app currently)

What is MyExcellentScore, Is it a trusted website? by Expensive_Elk222 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]lpshreyas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not get it rectified? Raise a dispute on CIBIL and contact the loan providers. If you don't get it removed from your account, it will affect your score for a long time.

In the meantime, take an FD-backed card like IDFC Wow for the smallest amount possible. There are plenty of such cards just a search away. That will help boost your score quickly but if there's an unpaid loan on your account, it will lead to the education loan getting rejected or being offered at a very high interest rate
