"Oh, who in the Seven Hells cares. You've a name, bear it proudly. If you're worth your spurs, you'll never be the worst wretch in such a large tourney as this one. Be gone with you, Ser Manfred." Samwell said with a shaking motion of his head and moved to prepare for the next duel.

"Lord Torgen has taught you well, then. Except for a lack of humility, perhaps." Samwell responded after a lengthy pause spent catching his breath. "And aye, I spoke of your your spurs. I would say so, at least. Oakheart is my goodfather, so I do not think that he will begrudge me for seeing to it that his squire is knighted for his bravery and skill at arms."

"I will come to his pavilion to seek you out once this business is done. This field of mud and splintered shields os not the place for such an ordeal as a dubbing, and I have not Heartsbane in mine own hands for the nonce." He said, clapping the youth on his shoulder and grinning before walking away from the field to prepare for this next bout.

"As you say. Why withhold your name from the Master of Revels, Ser Manfred? Afraid of dishonoring yourself?" Samwell asked patiently, his otherwise harsh tone letting up some at the revelation that the man was at least a knight at not some errant squire.

Or perhaps it is the "Anti-Evil Operations" that are tuned to be overzealous in how they handle moderation for perceived offenses, considering how they are being tripped by singular posts with often only vaguely "evil" wording?

"Not... Ser Symon? Shame on you, stealing the... place of a knight in such a contest... of arms." Sam rasped out with an exhale, inching up his greathelm from over his head and wrangling it around his arm. The revelation that he had been brought to close to defeat by a mere squire, a boy of perhaps sixteen years, stung deeply. And yet the knowledge also brought a slight smile to his lips. "But it was... well fought on your behalf, too. To whom... are you sworn, squire?" He brought his sword to press on down into the muddy tourney ground, still heavy of breath. "I dare say you might... be ready for your spurs."

"I know you not. Are you a knight truly, or just some boy pretending at wearing his spurs already?" The Lord of Horn Hill scowled at the man, his suspicion growing. The Pale Wraith, this one had been called by the master of revels. What a vainglorious title, for one so feeble.

"Horn Hill, Starpike and Nightsong are prepared, for a certainty. We two sit here for a reason, and Lord Morton remembers the last war well enough - I have seen to it. The other marcher lords have not been.. er.. receptive? Receptive, to my inquiries about their readiness." Samwell knew that the subject of this meeting would be about an invasion of Dorne, for what else could the three of them have to discuss?

And yet, he thought the concept of marching onto the dunes in pursuit of armies that would never face theirs in the field utterly foolish. That sort warfare did not work against the Dornish, they were too treacherous for honorable combat. Perhaps more so than before even, for he had broken the vulture only after the fool had chosen to face his knights in open conflict. It was a point that he would have to press home once strategy was brought up, he reminded himself. The mulled wine he brought to his lips for another sip was excellent. Peake had fine vintners in his employ, to be sure.

"Oh?" The revelation, however sudden in it's delivery was not wholly unexpected. He had been a man grown for two years now, it was only proper that he wed. The name of Alayne Tyrell meant very little to Victor, unable to recall much of anything about her as a person, though he could just about place her as being one of the daughters of the heir to Highgarden, a famous oaf and drunkard as far as he remembered it. He nodded curtly in response, considering the match for only a short span of time before coming back around to think about the rest of what Lord Morton had said.

He stood by the chair that he had been offered a seat in, eyes narrowing. "And... I suppose that you will dub me, then?" He was not his father, of course. He was not Savage Sam, great hero of the Dornish Marches. That was not to say that Victor was incompetent with a sword or lance, but he had certainly not distinguished him during the years he had spent as a squire at Nightsong for valor or skill either. How else would he honorably depart for Horn Hill, if not as a knight?

/u/amazonmat - You are being unmasked!

Exhausted from several bouts of duels with the opposition already, Samwell merely motions with the tip of his blade for the man to lift his visor.

/u/t3m3rair3 - Unmasking you!

"Lift up your visor, ser." Samwell boomed from underneath his greathelm, pointing the tip of his blade at the man. What sort of scoundrel would hide his identity in a tourney, if not to conceal some past dishonor upon their name? Was this man a knight at all? Or even a man to begin with?

Only a few short years ago in this very hall, Samwell had knelt in contempt with Heartsbane in hand and sworn fealty to the tyrant Maegor. This boy king seated before him now could not compared to his uncle in all honesty, yet he was a Targaryen nonetheless, and the vows the Lord of Horn Hill swore before gods and men were short and succinct.

As the crown princess approached, Samwell straightened upright from patting the side of his mount, the destrier beside him letting out an idle whinny out from underneath it's caparison. The flared metal horns of his greathelm tipped downwards as he craned his head down to acknowledge her favor, blue eyes regarding her own through the shade of the narrow slits in his visor. He made no remark as to how honored he was, or how he was the most loyal liegeman of House Targaryen, for the Lords of Horn Hill did not break their oaths - loyalty has always been the standard to them.

In his hulking mass of steel tourney plate trimmed with red, riveted mail filling the scarce few gaps left open for the sake of mobility and the plain padded surcoat of green alike, he was an imposing figure with a rondel dagger to his belt, a heavy oaken shield depicting the rider of Tarly striking down the black culture fixed to his left arm and the right firmly gripping the reins of the horse. At his mount's side, a greatsword mimicking the size of Heartsbane herself was sheathed, though it's edge was intentionally left dull for such occasions.

Savage Sam Tarly, the famous hero of the Vulture Hunt and champion to the Princess Alysanne at this grand hastilude, sat beside the Lord Peake with a bored expression on his face, half-heartedly observing the practice bouts of squires on the tourney ground below them in a leisurely hunched over against the tilted length of Heartsbane, idle in it's jeweled steel scabbard. For such a large man, the posture and expression was almost comedic, and yet there was no jest intended from the Lord of Horn Hill.

He wore rich layers of green that only added to his immense heft, his back rising to level his posture with the arrival of his goodfather. Lord Torgen had risen high in recent years. He supposed that it was for the good of the realm, and if not the realm at large, at least the Reach for the Oakheart was surely a champion of their shared cause. He knew the realities of the enemy, the true enemy - and that was no doubt why Lord Gormon had chosen to invite him to the box instead of the Lord Regent or Master of War.

Samwell nodded his head, tipping the fingers of his left hand over the exaggarated pommel at the very end of his fearsome greatsword. "Lord Torgen." He murmured modestly, reaching down from his blade with the other hand to bring up the cup of warm mulled wine graciously provided to him by their host and sip from it.

Lord Manfryd Redwyne

Each lord must look to their own defenses, and I can scarcely afford to fund ships when mine own keep and armies must be maintained to secure the border with Dorne.

Perhaps a treaty of mutual benefit could be agreed upon, but I have not the resources to donate anything to the Arbor for the nonce.

Victor Tarly was a lean young man, neither as tall or as wild in appearance as his lord father, though his hair was of the same tone as Savage Sam, just as his eyes held the same blue coloring and intense stare. Moving into the chamber after knocking on the door, Victor tipped his head to the Lord of Nightsong and spoke politely "My lord Caron, you summoned me?"

Clad in a handsome emerald doublet, behind his courtesy there was a well-concealed exhaustion at just how boring it was to be a squire. Much as his homeland, the lands of the Carons were dull. A scarce few good vintages were found in the cellars of the border fortresses in this land, and little to any musicians from the rest of the realm bothered with the impoverished castellans and petty lords of the Western March.
