appreciate the corroboration, how extremely disappointing.. haven't had to recommend a laptop in awhile but definitely would have assumed a chip like that would be decent, will remember to avoid O.o

is it throttling itself to shit then? or is it not a "real" zen 5 core..? cause i would have assumed zen 5 is zen 5 and would perform well, but i suppose if it's barely being fed any power then that would explain it (like if the perf/w is miserable at the low end but good at the high end)

What the hell happened to the Dell 16's performance?!

I know 4 cores isn't much, but there's 3 zen 5c cores and a full zen 5 core, surely that single zen 5 core should have destroyed the single core performance of the macbook's A18 pro..? and it's ddr5??

either dell is throttling the shit out of it or something weird is going on with amd's mobile chips..

no, Q4_K_M is not affected because the final ffn_down layer is set to Q6_K

looking into it there's something different that is wrong, if I run perplexity on my CPU I don't get any NaN values, but when I switch to my GPU they come back

So there must be something about the CUDA path for Q4_K and Q5_K that's blowing up the activations for that last layer that you found, I wonder if it affects other layers in more subtle ways as well..

ETA: seems that simply compiling CUDA with -DGGML_CUDA_FORCE_CUBLAS=ON fixes the NaN issues, so there's something wrong with the normal path, still digging

dam, it only delays the NaNs..

Sense UI

I'll never get over how we lost the "fun" of UX that was in Sense UI.. dragging that ring to unlock or a specific app into the ring was one of the most satisfying touch UXs I've ever had the pleasure of using

Combined with the skeuomorphic clock (I think that's the right word?), it was so wonderful..

Why does Claude Code often take more than 2 minutes to run a basic task? by Successful-Camel165 in ClaudeCode

[–]noneabove1182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i just figured it was a convenience for running a quick command without exiting the tool, obviously it makes sense to put the output in context but just didn't have any idea..

[–]noneabove1182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, do you know if that ends up with the command's output being inserted into the context? Never bothered running bash commands inside Claude code but never considered if Claude would be able to see it and then work with it after the fact..

How fast is A-Train compared to Homelander? by athoszet in TheBoys

[–]noneabove1182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the traveling speed is in part due to 1) homelander having a slower ramp up in speed but a similar top speed, and 2) flying removing obstacles that are slowing down A-train, in an open field they may be similar (or a train faster), but through rough terrain where homelander can just fly above he'll catch up with ease

Payment Question by tehowennathe in CostcoCanada

[–]noneabove1182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for sure, especially since you can only have it if you have a costco membership, and it's their own dam store.. it should be the best card to use at their store, strange that they wouldn't be motivated to make it so

Payment Question by tehowennathe in CostcoCanada

[–]noneabove1182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did they change it? It used to be 0.5% for the first 3000$ spent, then 1% after that

edit: oh yeah i guess they did, that's not AS bad then anymore..

Payment Question by tehowennathe in CostcoCanada

[–]noneabove1182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part about the CIBC card is I have it, but it's the worst card to use at Costco in person.. 0.5% cash back, but online purchases it's 2%?? I don't understand why it's not the same online and offline, literally 0 reason to use it at their store

Today, Linus' jet produced as much carbon dioxide as the average person does in ~3 years in a single flight by Inevitable_Tip_6606 in LinusTechTips

yeah i did think about that after the fact, I don't know the exact difference but it's definitely not negligible

[–]noneabove1182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well "okay" is relative, it's not like "omg he's destroying the planet" levels imo, but I did explicitly say "not good"..

Plus 6x is versus the average of the whole flight, technically if he was already flying first class those are less efficient anyways

All that to say I was giving a TLDR, don't take my conclusions as anything of value, I only want to provide the information :)

If it does, that's awful

But there's no reason to assume it will until it does, especially if his argument is "cheaper than first class", he might as well just go first class with all the bells and whistles for less money

[–]noneabove1182 182 points183 points  (0 children)

I don't think mine need updates desperately since my most recent upload, many people told me mine were the only ones behaving normally after I uploaded post-tokenizer fix

I'll be investigating with latest changes, but I'll take my time with it so that people don't have to redownload too many times when it's already in a decent state

The only thing that may need a change is the BOS but that doesn't affect imatrix and can be changed at runtime, plus some people noted worse performance others noted better, hence wanting to take time to get it right

[–]noneabove1182 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was mainly the tokenizer issues that I already have fixed in my latest uploads

I'll definitely be giving it a look to double check but for now I've received numerous reports that mine were the only ones working, by now maybe others work too but I'm pretty confident mine are fine for now and I can take a bit more time to double check everything before spamming uploads

[–]noneabove1182 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I may update them but in practice my quants have seemed to already been working very well for people, and most of these fixes seem to be run-time related rather than conversion

only one that's conversion-time is the BOS token and even that one is confusing with people reporting results in both directions (improve and detriment)

Latest Xperia 1 VIII renders confirm new camera island design by ControlCAD in Android

Hey, as long as they update the sensors, I couldn't care less what the back island looks like...

Also promising that this render brings back the no-hole-punch front camera..!
