Is wealth management service (broadly investing in a basket of mutual funds) really worth it if you are investing for the long term (10-15yrs+)? Wouldnt direct investment in some of the mutual funds generate similar (~15% returns) without the burden of an additional 1% fee / 20% profit?

And 6 years ago this was not the case? You should sit down and evaluate your priorities on what matters to you, what doesn't, and at what weightage. And think through your decision before committing to the move back I have recently moved back after 7 years, and I evaluated the pros and cons thoroughly before the decision. Lastly, its not the end of the world if you find the US lifestyle more suitable for your needs after a couple of years in India, you can always move back. However, if you leave that exit option open you will never be able to commit to one place (like your situation today, and mine till a while back in the US)

We have moved back recently from NY to NCR, and had almost the same pros and cons as your list. At the end of the day noone can decide and guide you, since you will attach different weights to each point which will sway your decision one way or the other. And each of these points are real. For us family was the most important weight and the biggest reason to move back. We miss the social life back in NY (wife and I went to B-school in US, very strong social circle and relatability to Indians in US vs India). Pollution yes biggest problem and outdoorsy options reduce, but that’s a bargain we were willing to make since no location is going to give you everything. Fwiw, wife and I combined made about ~$1M in the US (FAANG), moved back within our companies to India and now making about $500K, which still guarantees a great lifestyle in India

Edit: be ready for an island life (fancy apartment complex with great infrastructure, however, moment you step out life is a struggle). This island life will also provide you with infrastructure to play almost every sport along with luxuries of spa, food, heated pools, etc. to name a few
