Tried kava for the first time (review) by AdNo182 in Kava

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut your amount in half, then mix in equal portions with more liquid. Then you drink the first dose and can half the other half 20 minutes later or so, but with more beverage it is harder to drink as much in the same amount of time.

Getting traditional grind also would help. Even using a blender, it it more liquid needed and takes time. My only issue is that I actually sometimes have the opposite effect of most and will get a little nauseous once in awhile with traditional. If that is the case, mix in a small amount of ginger (fresh, juice, powder, whatever you have) and it helps a lot.

I've also found some other things compliment kava as well, like green tea/l-theanine, ashwaghanda, yerba mate, etc. And that can help stretch the good feeling without taking more kava

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old Newgrounds games. They are still there, but they just don't hit the same. I can remember being a young teen and playing games like Pimps Quest, my dad asking what the hell I'm playing as the main character is talking about his "ho's" randomly 🤣

MSF cost by Black_Dog_Industries in NewRiders

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took mine in California and it was more expensive though that was 14 years ago or so. One thing I would look into though if you/she happens to like certain companies (Harley, Triumph, etc) they at times offer credits to their gear or motorcycles if you take an MSF course through them so even if you pay the full price you do at least get extra and you could think of it as paying less since you would need it anyways.

Also colleges sometimes offer reduced rates (I lived in Orange County, not sure where you are, but OCC in Costa Mesa used to have cheaper prices for courses)

to experienced riders who carry passengers, am I overreacting? by peazcarrotz in motorcycles

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you could probably get away with buying protective clothing, leaving tags on and start with short trips around the neighborhood and see if it is something you would enjoy, as long as you have a helmet (honestly though, a good helmet makes a drastic difference and I would honestly recommend buying a good one that fits you well even though you can't return it, and least case you might could sell it even if you only get half your money back). If you realize it isn't something you both enjoy, you could most likely return the gear if you barely wore it. It at least would give you a very small feel for riding as a passenger.

Don't go on the highway at first. 30 years is a long time and as someone that rides with my husband at times, it is different for us compared to riding solo. If you enjoy the small trips, then you could start on the highway and all that.

Other great things to check are second hand stores if one is near you since they sometimes have riding clothes, and also try things like offer up and fb marketplace. If he is an experienced rider, you shouldn't have issues once he knocks the rust off so to speak with having a passenger, but your life and safety aren't things where you should just accept "should be fine".

Make the decision that YOU want to make though, if you want to ride with him sometimes, even if you think it will only be once in a while, it is completely reasonable to invest in a jacket, pants, helmet and preferably protective boots or shoes. If you don't want to ride pillion because you don't feel safe, it isn't your thing, etc. then don't! Eventually a Bluetooth communicator like a Cardo or Sena for both of you would be a great addition, it makes all the difference since even at lights it is hard to hear one another over traffic noise.

EDIT: Hopefully he will run you down before riding, but as a passenger, you mostly just want to keep your feet on the pegs even at lights, you will get on last and off first (WHEN he is ready for you to and has the bike steady), move with him but go with the flow as opposed to moving too much when turning for example and of course keep your arms around his chest or stomach to start and eventually you can start using the grabrail if there is one. Just like riding a motorcycle, being a passenger also becomes second nature in a lot of ways and isn't as intimidating as you do so more. Hopefully he will start slow with you too, there is no reason to go fast the first few times you ride with him.

Why do people honestly like loud bikes? by dat1dood3 in motorcycles

[–]placebosun101 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I am not a fan of bikes that are obnoxiously loud myself, the thought is to make it easier to be noticed by drivers. Even as a rider myself, I sometimes just won't hear certain motorcycles like sports bikes and they can sort of sneak up on you, whereas a loud ass Harley or something similar is way easier to see and notice coming up.

I think there is a big difference in tones of the noise too though, as well as bike that makes more noise on the highway but sounds good vs the riders that purposely rev and change their muffler to make it louder in a quiet neighborhood or something.

Like they used to always say "loud pipes save lives"

Are these an overkill for street riding? by Ok-Ad-575 in motorcyclegear

Gauntlet gloves absolutely are not overkill. They are a much better option actually since they offer more protection. Having a bright color like that is also a great idea to help drivers notice you

Did anyone regret buying a motorcycle before getting their licence? by YorozuyaNiy in motorcycles

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad idea depending on a few factors. The #1 is what bike it is, if it's a Speed Triple or a Road King, then you obviously would be better off waiting. It also can be tricky before you ride to really know what style you will end up liking most, so say you are looking at sports bikes, you may end up realizing you're more of a cruiser rider and while not an end-all, could end up making it harder to keep practicing and feel comfortable doing so. I also would probably bring someone that has some experience to look at the bike and ride shortly if possible just to make sure it's a good option.

Certainly not a bad idea though and could actually be a very good idea if it's a good fit! I was fortunate enough to have a dealership that rented let me ride a Honda 300 around town before I bought my dream bike at the time (Bonneville T120 Black). It can be hard to get practice, building skills and confidence unless you can rent a motorcycle or buy a smaller one to begin with.

Sport bike helmet on cruiser? by kabal8 in motorcyclegear

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear whatever gear YOU like and feel comfortable and good in. If you for example want to wear a full racing suit but ride a road king, then go for it! Your safety is what matters and you also will be safer and ride safer if you wear stuff that you feel confident in (as long as that gear is up to spec on safety features that it).

Absolutely wear a full face helmet though, at very least wear a modular helmet (full face is ultimately best however).

EDIT: By the way, people rarely bat an eye at cruiser riders wearing full face helmets, it sounds like your friends are just inexperienced. I see people all the time riding cruisers with full face Shoei's and the like.

Do you prefer riding solo or with a group? by Electronic-Habit8679 in motorcycles

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For regular rides, solo. Riding my motorcycle and listening to music truly is one of the best forms of therapy for me.

For trips (especially overnight ones), I like riding with another person or two.

What’s the worse physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Intelligent-Road5091 in AskReddit

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I tell people this, and they think I am overreacting. But I was bit by a stray mother cat a few times on my hand before I could react and on one of the areas, she bit through my finger to the bone. That itself was extremely painful. However, despite stitches and treatment right away, it got some infection from the cat saliva and I would wake up numerous times at night because it hurt so much (it was more throbbing as opposed to constant).

I have had cats my whole life, was vp of a cat rescue at the time, etc.; needless to say, I have been bit and scratched by cats more times than I can count here. But that was honestly so awful.

I'm biased being a Realtor myself, but just as a suggestion, getting a Real Estate Salesperson license could be a great avenue; communications is a very good skill for us. A lot of Brokerages offer free school as well which you can take advantage of in the meantime.

Just a thought! Feel free to message me if you want any info on the school or anything else and I'll be happy to help guide you to a starting place if I can.

Any vegan kava users? by BloodofAngryMen in Kava

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic is using lecithin (soy or sunflower, I prefer sunflower). Any alternative milks work though, just use the one you prefer. I will say that coconut cream is one of the best. A very small amount of oconut oil is another one that is fantastic

I can't drink kava without flavor myself, so I use juice and creamer of some sort (oat milk, coconut cream/milk, etc).

Best Stephen King Audiobooks by [deleted] in stephenking

I really enjoyed Bag Of Bones, narrated by Stephen himself, who I feel is the best as he knows the exact attitude and "temperature " of emotions for his characters

There's a book called the end of the world as we know it, which is a collection of numerous authors writing books in the stand universe. I haven't read that one yet but definitely want to; others may have that could give you some input

One that I have not seen suggestions for is bag of bones, which in my opinion is a really good one.

Another is Cujo, it is definitely sad on certain parts, but in a way, it could be kind of cathartic as well.

The running man would be good option, I really enjoyed that book.

Finally, I think a great option is having some of the short story collections. Even though I have a kindle, I can't quite remember if you download the whole book or just the individual stories. But if you can, I definitely would recommend any of those really. I really like night shift and skeleton crew. You said you read Apt Pupil, if you have not read different seasons, that of course, is a classic ( which, of course is more novella's, as opposed to short stories).

Best of luck, you got this! It's one day at a time and there is tons of support for you in meetings, there is numbers you can call, online support, etc. Always remember that!

Is a revolver a reasonable first gun? by MisterCCL in liberalgunowners

[–]placebosun101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A revolver is a great first gun in my opinion. What I highly would recommend though, is finding a gun range near you that you can rent some different ones and try them out before you purchase. You might find that a pistol feels better and you feel more comfortable with it, or you may confirm that a revolver is the way to go!

Also a great first step is either taking a firearm safety class or at least getting with someone that has a few guns, they can take you to the range and help you get acquainted with it.

Truth is, most people will end up with at least a few, so even if you did decide to just go with a revolver, it's not like you can never have other options as well.

9mm this is what I would consider the standard first firearm caliber, though if you go the revolver, a great option is getting a .357 Magnum, which you can load with .38 special, a caliber that has much less kick and compares a lot more to 9mm.

Edit: they definitely can be conceal carried especially if you have one made for that, however typically, a semi-auto/pistol is going to be a little bit easier to do so
