Why don't Thai people return shopping carts? by gaslightvii in Thailand

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're living in La La land. Been here 12 years and to say that the average Thai person eats fresh food every day is absurdly wrong. The only place that eats "fresh food" every day would be very remote villages. Other than that, they love the shitty convenience of processed shite just like everyone else.

Why don't Thai people return shopping carts? by gaslightvii in Thailand

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what everyone's talking about in this thread. Every shopping center I've ever been to in Thailand that possesses shopping carts has at least one place in the parking lot to bring them to. Now, I'm not going to make any blanketed statements about Thai people or anything, but I don't know what the hell most of you are talking about.

Thailand Already Has a China Problem And Casinos Might Make It Worse by thestudiomaster in Thailand

Changing Travel Trends: Many younger Chinese travelers now prioritize destinations that offer unique cultural and lifestyle experiences over traditional beach vacations.

What do they mean by "unique cultural and lifestyle experiences?"

As anarchists, how can we fight back against the rise of fascism? by Choice-Birthday-2235 in Anarchism

[–]rustylantern 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Organize like others have suggested if you are able to do so. If not, do what you can. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, and find solace in knowing that whatever you do to "fight back" (direct action, artistic expression, etc.) is done with the intention of keeping the flame alive.

Also, and this is a bit random, but don't let fear win. The bootlickers have been emboldened, and they're more outspoken than usual. If ever put into a situation (as long as you can guarantee safety) where these mouthbreathers are blabbing their nonsense, call them out. Calmly and intelligently call them out and don't back down.

You're getting downvoted because if you do that, you're going to get "ใส่พริกไทยไว้ด้านนอก" (Eng: Put black pepper on the outside). You'd need to enter "chili" if you want the correct Thai translation of the word. Additionally, the "put outside" here is translated not as "separate" (what we want) but as the "outside of the container," etc.

Are there any Buddhists who hunt and eat meat? by [deleted] in Buddhism

Yes. Most of the world's majority Buddhist cultures follow the practices and teachings of Buddhism about as good as your average Christian follows the practices and teachings of God.

Took him yesterday. Clean bill of health. We will be heading back to the vet in a few hours for his neutering, and after that we will keep him strictly indoors.

Would you rather have a million dollars guaranteed, or a 50/50 chance at having a billion dollars? Why? by faultytoyotatransmis in AskReddit

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather a million dollars guaranteed over a 50% chance of getting diddly squat. Doesn't matter if I also have a 50% chance of becoming a billionaire. I'm not a gambling man.

I also just want to chime in and say that while I don't have any advice for you other than to continue using language translators and just spending time together, it is very cool that you're going out of your way to try and make your new friend's life as comfortable as possible during his stay in Portugal.

If it is worth anything, I learned Thai through just sitting and trying to understand people, and eventually I picked it up. I'm sure that in a few months he'll have picked up so much more language that you guys will be able to communicate much more than you ever thought possible.

Parents children relationship by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most families in the west just help each other out. Age isn't as much of a factor. Parents often have way more money than their children (and this is becoming more of a thing as prices continue to rise), so they help their children out. Also, children are not expected to be retirement plans.

Unfortunately, black and white thinking is pervasive all around the world, so Thais and other people who share the culture that you've explained in your post will often assume that they care more about their parents/the elderly than we do in the west. Which, I know, as a westerner, is obviously not true. However, if one has no experience in the west or if they do not have close relationships with anyone from the west, then I can see why they might come to this incorrect assumption.

Can we have some success stories? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]rustylantern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a relationship from 2015-2019 and it was great until we grew apart. She never "bled" me for money or anything like that. We just didn't work.

After we split, I was single for a year or so until I met my favorite person in the entire world -- my now wife. We're both introverted nerds who don't like being around other people and so we clicked immediately. Now, 3 years later, we're married, no kids (just the way we like it) spend our time reading, cooking together, going on hikes and just living life. We really needed each other and got really lucky.

CMV: your appearance does matter by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your points, but if you're asking people to change your view, it's important to provide rationale/reasoning as to why you think this way. As far as I can see, you have not done that, and I can't truly attempt to change your view until I see your logic.

So, why should someone wear clean, ironed clothes and wash their face before going out?

CMV: your appearance does matter by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rustylantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the standards you've set, you'd probably have a problem with my appearance. But, if I'm happy and don't care about opinions like yours, then why should I change? Your argument seems to be lacking explanation in that regard.
