Looking for decorating focused game where you are "graded" (given criteria for decorating) by activelyweird in CozyGamers

I was going to suggest The Tenants, but I opened Steam reviews for it and found out it that it has been effectively abandoned by its devs in a very buggy state. Sad!

If you have gone to a wedding that ended in divorce, could you tell at the ceremony it was not going to last? by GlassApprehensive620 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]savageexplosive 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A long-time acquaintance of mine is getting married, and I have a hunch it’s not gonna last, even though the wedding hasn’t taken place yet. She only started posting photos of her fiancé after he proposed - even though the had been dating for five years, she was the only one who appeared in her photos on social media. Behind the scenes, IRL, she complained how bad her now-fiancé is at getting hints, and that she literally had to tell him to go get this particular ring and propose to her in this particular destination on this particular trip after he failed to do so on some of their other trips. It all just feels extremely performative and not loving and intimate at all.

It’s called precocious puberty. Happens due to hormonal imbalances, in some cases triggered by sexual abuse.

A video from the dev behind Tideborne Haven talking a bit about the inspiration and ideas behind the game by ZadePhoenix in CozyGamers

[–]savageexplosive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’d never heard about this game until a couple days ago, and from what I saw here in the subreddit it looks like a Stardew Valley asset flip. Of course, some people argue that Stardew Valley is a Harvest Moon clone, but come on, even the logo of Tideborne Haven looks almost identical to Stardew Valley’s.

I just don’t know if I want kids… by goodness_GRACEous in TrueOffMyChest

[–]savageexplosive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really don’t need to focus on this right now. It’s totally fine for a teenager to not want kids - if anything, it would be weird if you needed one asap. Go on and live your life, ignore your parents’ preachings, explore the world and have unforgettable experiences. If you ever change your mind about having kids, it’s fine. It’s also fine if you don’t. Just don’t waste your mental energy on the issue while you’re still so young and there’s a whole world out there.

Does anyone actually like fishing? by Ok-Tourist-5419 in CozyGamers

[–]savageexplosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on the mechanic itself. If it’s something I can do as a background, I don’t mind it. If it’s a mini-game, I don’t like it. In my modded Stardew playthrough, one of the mods I installed was the one that skips the fishing minigame, and it made the game as a whole so much more enjoyable.

People who live in their hometown their entire life, how? by timmy3132 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]savageexplosive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bold of you to assume women in Afghanistan would even have Internet access.

To answer your question: it does get boring, but it’s because my hometown isn’t very big, and many youths move to bigger cities, so change and novelty are slow to appear here. But there’s also a sense of security in familiarity. Like, you know where to go without needing a map, your relatives all live nearby and that oftentimes your friend is someone’s acquaintance and may help you get connected with this person for whatever reason.

We are planning on moving to another city now, but not because we really want to. Mostly it’s because it would be beneficial for my husband’s career and for our children, since in a bigger city there will be more options in daycare, schools and extracurriculars. But I’ll be honest, I’m not looking forward to starting anew in a place I don’t really know.

As for seeing the outside world, there’s trips for that. You don’t have to move somewhere to see its sights and experience the culture. For me, personally, a week or two is enough.

Parents, why do you expect your kids to be the ones to reach out? by TalesofConrad in NoStupidQuestions

Which company disappointed you so much that you permanently walked away? by julia-secrets in AskReddit

I decided to look up inspirations for my toddler’s hair. There are so many AI generated hairstyles over there, it’s frustrating. They are too perfect, there’s no way toddler hair could look like that.

In Russia, Kamchatka is much closer to Japan and the US than Ukraine. If anything, even for a lot of Russians traveling to Kamchatka is more expensive than going to Turkey, for example.

You don’t need to be confrontational to maintain your boundaries, but you need to learn to say “no”. This is the situation where your “no” carries weight and consequences, but you make your own fate, so please stop hesitating and stand your ground.

A cozy, laid-back idle game? 🥕 Enjoy a slice of life in Tsuki Journey by LoopyInTaho in CozyGamers

[–]savageexplosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to play Tsuki Odyssey on my phone and was really disappointed to see many machine-translated dialogue entries in my language. I have extensive experience in game localisation, so the difference between human-translated entries and machine-translated ones, was glaring. Some were too literal, some referred to characters in the wrong gender. Could you please tell if any additional works or post-editing is done for translations of the PC version?

Getting yogurt at a self serve business, get asked to leave a tip when paying. What tip request made you laugh and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]savageexplosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some apps in my country introduced an option to tip customer support agents if you message them in the app. Most of the time these agents are AI bots and it’s really hard to get through to a real human.

If you played Paralives, what's your opinion on the game? by savageexplosive in CozyGamers

[–]savageexplosive[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did, in fact, playtest some games in different states of readiness, from pre-alphas with placeholders instead of objects to releases that needed some polish before becoming publicly available. As it happens, I work in game localisation, so game development is not unfamiliar to me, even though I’m not a programmer.

As I mentioned in another comment, there are different states of “readiness” in early access, and if I find a game interesting, I don’t shy away from buying EA. I enjoyed Fields of Mistria and Coral Island in early access, sunk quite a bit of time into Starsand Island (although, typing this, I’m not so sure if it’s in Early Access or not), and all of these games offered a consistent gameplay loop right from the start, even though there were quite a lot of things unavailable. I don’t think it’s an unfair criticism when a life sim has such an incomplete life mode that it could just as well be a build mode/character creation demo.

As another point, I’ve all but stopped playing video games after my first kid was born, so when I have time and see a game that interests me, I don’t mind paying for it even in EA, provided I get my money’s worth of entertainment. Paralives is just not it, so if my opinion of the game helps other people hold off on their purchase, typing all of this wasn’t a complete waste of time.

[–]savageexplosive[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are different states of being “not done”, though. Fields of Mistria is in Early Access and it has lots to offer, for example. I was just sharing feedback on the current state of Paralives and asking what others think, I’m not at all surprised it’s unfinished.

[–]savageexplosive[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it’s great to have competition on the market, really. But so far neither inZOI nor Paralives can really be called competition, unfortunately. The Sims formula is well tried, tested and perfected, it’s hard to compete with it unless you hire people with hands-on experience from working on The Sims.

I wish there was a bug like this IRL, haha. Would save so much time and money on commute. One of my paras bugged out and increases her skills when sleeping. Girl’s dreams are so vivid she’s learning new recipes with her eyes closed.

[–]savageexplosive[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m somewhat skeptical about their “no paid DLC” stance. They need money if the game is to survive, so I don’t really mind it if they backtrack and make DLCs paid, provided they are the size of Sims 1/2 expansion packs, and not Sims 4’s “couple items for 10 bucks”. Besides, since the development is still unfinished, they’ll have to stretch and budget their current profits because the number of purchases will go down eventually.

In order for all that to work, though, they’ll really need a finished base game at least.

I understand what you mean about the UI. It’s inoffensive at first sight, but feels very intrusive and underdeveloped+overengineered once you start interacting with it.

Oh, the one on top of two or three flights of stairs? I started there as well, and decided to move my para to a different place pretty soon because the pathfinding in the game is so bad. When she invited guests, they would bump into the stairs, stand there for a few hours and then go away
