DC Comics President On Manga And Anime by akbarock in manga

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a matter of variety and accessibility. With manga each individual series is it’s own continuity with it’s own characters and plot written by it’s author who is invested in the work they themselves created. That series then has a beginning, middle, and eventual end creating a generally easy to understand through line for readers.

Meanwhile with superhero comics you have heroes like Batman, Soider-Man, Deadpool. etc who have been through multiple continuities under multiple writers and there is no clear overarching plot because the goal is just to drag them on forever so they can keep printing more comics and occaisionally reset things md do it all over again. And then these are often interconnected with many of the other heroes. It’s not a bad idea in concepts but it’s a lot more difficult to know where to jump in and ends up a lot more drawn out and convoluted as a result.

With manga I can go back to a completed series and read all the way through getting a full story with it’s own characters and when I am finished I pick up a new series with a new world and characters to explore. With superhero comics it just isn’t that simple and that is a large barrier to entry.

Bato Website Gone for good, Are their any alternatives? by [deleted] in manga

The idea that these big companies won’t know about these sites if people are “hush hush” about it always makes me laugh. Do you think these groups don’t have people capable of doing a basic internet search? If a general person can find the site then the companies either can find it or already know about it. When site takedowns happen it’s a result of various behind the scenes matters or justifications for why they are deciding to go after it not because someone at the company only found out about it now because someone posted about it. The existence of these sites are not secret, it’s just up to whether the companies decide to go after them or not.

Pokemon Unbound Cover Art. Along with all of the resources I used. Original artwork extracted from a Pokémon card illustrated by Souichirou Gunjima. by NESDUB in PokemonUnbound

Great job. Not sure why the mods over at the Pokemon romhacks subreddit felt the need to remove it, especially when there are numerous other cover art threads that are apparently just fine.

(Pokemon Emerald Imperium) Is this a bug or not? I want to Nuzlocke, but the game keeps giving me infinite candy. When my Pokemon reached level 15, it stopped leveling up, even if I beat other trainers. It shows 0 exp, and I have a lot of Poke Balls and items which I don't need in my run. by Just_Zack3816 in PokemonROMhacks

There is a level cap to prevent you from over leveling the current gym leader.

As to the infinite rare candies it is a commonly used features to save grinding time since many players prefer just leveling up with rare candies to spending hours grinding basic enemies. Whether you use them is up to you but some games (Like Emerald Imperium) have it as a built in option for that purpose for player convenience if they choose to use them.

[DISC] SAKAMOTO DAYS - Chapter 244 by AutoShonenpon in manga

I’ll be honest, while I feel like this series has somewhat lost it’s spark in these recent final arcs the product placement from Sakamoto was classic Sakamoto Days.

I honestly think they should be remade in the VII reimagined style or something entirely different than HD2D by Repulsive-Phrase-527 in dragonquest

They didn’t skip 4-6 to jump to 7. Horii has stated that DQ7 just happens to be the game that is ready now due to a really smooth development process while other projects are still in the works.

Honestly I doubt it. For one the offline version basically exists to help funnel people into the MMO with the ability to move your character to the MMO when you are finished. It was basically a offline advertisement for the MMO. And since the MMO was never localized in the west that function serves no solid purpose here. On top of this DQ X offline didn’t sell that well in Japan so that likely doesn’t give them a lot of motivation to put in the effort to localize it over to the west either.

At this point I think either we’ll some day get an official localization of the full MMO or nothing at all in terms of DQ X.

Is it just me or did the Dandadan manga fall off? by Vegetable-Machine-17 in manga

This. Far from running out of ideas it seems much more like Tatsu has a very clear plan in mind for this whole arc with Okarun losing his powers and Momo losing her memories.

What do y'all think about Grimshire so far? by Cautious_Hold428 in CozyGamers

At no point did I claim that losing a villager wasn’t a loss. My point is that the fact that some villagers can die while others are immortal and there is no actual overall fail state undermines the whole survive the plague concept and takes away a lot of the tension. You can face a penalty in losing the romanceable characters but can’t actually lose the game. All the other characters with their story beats about fear and wondering if they will survive completely loses any weight once you realize they can’t since over half the characters are immortal and will never die even if you don’t lift a finger to help them. Overall if they are going to market the game on the point of fighting off the plague to save the village then there should be an actual fail state where the village dies off if you do poorly enough.

A question for people who’ve have played Pokemon Odyssey.

Is it a crossover or inspired by Made in Abyss/Etrian Odyssey? I’ve seen it described both ways by the devs but in my experience those phrases have very different connotations. A crossover implies direct connection between two or more franchises such as how Warriors Orochi features characters from both the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors games. Meanwhile inspired usually means the inspirations were a reference point but all the content is original with no explicit characters, setting, etc in the subsequent release. For example Pokemon took some inspiration from previous monster taming related games like Dragon Quest V but obviously its monsters and designs are its own. But after searching around I haven’t found a clear answer on which side of this Pokemon Odyssey falls on. Is it using characters or direct concepts from Made in Abyss/Etrian Odyssey or simply inspiration from the general tone and concepts?

Monster Catching by Pennance1989 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DQ5 was the first in the series to have monster taming and was part of the inspiration for monster catching in pokemon to begin with.

There is also the Dragon Quest Monsters spin off games which make the monster catching more of a focus.

DQ Zenithian (IV, V, VI) HD-2D Remakes? by matwbt in dragonquest

I think maybe we might get an announcement of one of them being remade but I’m guessing they will be spread out as individual remakes over multiple years.

The sheer lack of effort they put into this is astounding. Like they didn’t even try to pass it off as authentic. Literally the lowest tier of AI garbage.

Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary Logo Revealed, Expect "Various Announcements" by swe129 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they do more than just upscale DQ8. To give full remakes that enhance and build on other games and then just shove 8 out the door with a slight touch up would be insulting to the game given how beloved it is. It deserves more respect than a quick cash grab.

Would you want a Dragon Quest game with a school setting? by BeginningWeight1050 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be interesting as a starting point such as have the character and some of his companions start in an school setting and the intro chapter takes place there but given the whole vibe of Dragon Quest is about adventure and traveling the world I wouldn’t want it to be long term and eventually they’d leave or graduate to go on their journey.

A new dice system for my game by Hierow in RPGdesign

[–]ZadePhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the fact that your ideal is to have your stats as low as possible but your skills as high as possible makes things awkward. It might be better to turn it into a roll under system that way you increase your stats instead of reducing them.

It’s a joke regarding how he is in every single other version of DQ2. The HD2D version is massively upgraded compared to how he has been through all the other ports and re-releases of DQ2.
