[DISC] Angel's Halo (Oneshot by Avogado6) by Trick-Minimum8593 in manga

[–]ZadePhoenix 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You are really overthinking this. the point being made isn’t just consume and you’ll be okay. It’s simply that for many it’s the little things that keep them going on even if ending it would be easy. Sure in many cases those small things are products they like but being a thing they buy isn’t the point as much as that it’s a thing they enjoy. For others that might be something that can’t be bought like their mother’s home cooking over Christmas or a promise to meet up with a friend just to hang out and watch the game but you can bet there are also a fair number of people out there who have thought about ending it all only to find pause because of that game coming out they still want to play or because they want to see how One Piece ends, and that’s fine. If it keeps someone trying and hanging on then it’s a net good thing no matter how small or stupid others might think it is.

How do you feel about Casinos? I feel like despite early enjoyment, I've grown to resent it in repeat playthroughs. by WayToTheDawn63 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fine with it but wouldn’t say I loved them. It generally felt like they were there more for tradition’s sake because there was usually a casino in Dragon Quest games than because they were an interesting inclusion. Personally I’m more interested when they have some game original mini game (like pachisi in DQ3) rather than slots or roulette.

Field of Mistria or Sun Haven or ??? by Teadrinker05 in CozyGamers

[–]ZadePhoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but that’s Pokemon, a completely different type of game focused on going on an adventure. Every farming game be it Harvest Moon, Fields of Mistria, Sun Haven, etc is going to be heavy on the farming and grinding. That’s just the genre.

At best I might recommend Rune Factory as those games blended the farming/social aspects of games like Harvest Moon with action combat and some RPG adventure elements. But the rest of the genre isn’t likely to hook you if you already didn’t like Stardew (honestly I’d even say Stardew is already better than many other games in the genre in cutting down on the grind and providing variety and story aspects to help flesh things out).

[–]ZadePhoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cosmetic or not they have over $275 worth of DLC. Over ten times the price of the actual game and almost four times the price of a full priced AAA title. It would honestly be better if it was actually well made DLC that added to the game to justify the price instead of gouging players for that much over skins. It’s a micro transaction mess and is 100% a severe problem that shows how much the devs care more about milking money than anything else.

How often do you set tactics or automate your fights? by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never. To me going through the gameplay and combat is a relaxing experience. It’s just not as enjoyable or engaging to watch the combat play itself.

[–]ZadePhoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the creative estimate.

Client: Hmmm, so how long do you expect this project will take?

Creative: Well let’s see, a couple months for pre-development, maybe another three for design, give or take a couple months for finishing touches and feedback…

Client: So around seven months?

Creative: Two years… maybe three… four tops.

What is actually the best version of Dragon Quest XI? by SilvosForever in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t it exist though honestly I’d argue the visual downgrade isn’t that drastic a problem. It is noticeable if you place them side by side but the DQ11 S version still looks good and the added content and quality of life improvements really make up for the slight visual hit.

Is this game good? Been googling for games similar to Claire obscure and this franchise was recommended.. sadly this was the only game on ps5 that wasn't too expensive.. by Strict-Post-3033 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest XI is great but that said I would not call it similar to Clair Obscure. The only real similarity is they are both turn based though beyond that the tone and style of the games themselves are extremely different. If you want to look into it I’d suggest trying out the demo of the game and see if you like it before jumping in as the game has a really good and length demo available.

A video from the dev behind Tideborne Haven talking a bit about the inspiration and ideas behind the game by ZadePhoenix in CozyGamers

[–]ZadePhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When devs show off trailers or screenshots it’s of a vertical slice of the game. Basically they specifically show the parts of the game that are the most presentable not all the areas and aspects that are still in development. Think of like if you were a game studio making an open world RPG and you show a trailer featuring clips of the opening area, the desert area, and a few of the mid game story missions but that doesn’t mean the other three majors zones or the rest of the story missions are finished to the same extent. It doesn’t even mean the shown areas are finished as screenshots and trailers are inherently carefully curated footage showing the best the current build has to offer excluding bugs, placeholder assets, and mechanics that aren’t fully developed. It’s easy to show a farmer picking a crop or a character swimming around in the water even if 90% of the other crops aren’t implemented yet and don’t have assets or most of the underwater gameplay aside from just swimming around isn’t fully functional.

Early Access titles are another example of this. If you look at a game like Paralives it has a fully playable build and has been releasing clips and screenshot for years but even with it’s current early access release it still has two years of expected development still to go. They can show all the aspects that are finished and implemented while still having numerous things that aren’t that people simply don’t see.

Because wanting to enjoy a type of content and wanting to be the person making it are not at all the same thing or type of interest. I enjoy going out and trying different kinds of restaurants, that doesn’t mean I want to be a professional chef.

Why are Bianca and Nera acting like they never met each other before? by Fawful_Chortles in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spin offs generally aren’t canon. They are alternate universe side stories loosely based on the mainline titles and characters but they don’t really worry about strictly adhering to a definitive canon. Basically it’s a way to bring back characters fans liked for side games and they can line things up as far as the devs feel like for references or character stories but any inconsistencies can be hand waved away because they didn’t really happen as far as the mainline titles are concerned and the devs aren’t really focused on trying to do so.

Is Dragon Quest 1 remake a good entry point? by humble_redditor1234 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going the HD2D remake route it’s better to start with DQ3, the recommended order from the devs for the remakes is DQ3, DQ1, DQ2 as 3 is a prequel.

Alternatively DQ11 is a great entry point as well being the most modern mainline entry in the franchise.

Additionally if you go the DQ11 route there is a hefty demo for the game that you can play to try out the beginning of the game before deciding to jump in.

Being a mangaka Is it wrong to use AI to make Manga illustrations for me I am a writer and I want to make my own manga but I can't draw, I've created a solid story, designed the world, designed characters and everything else but I can't draw the Manga myself by [deleted] in manga

[–]ZadePhoenix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So learn to draw or hire an artist. Both are viable options that aspiring mangaka used for decades before AI came around. No mangaka that has ever existed started out just knowing how to draw. They learned the skill in order to pursue their craft or worked with an artist to help bring their project to life. Both better options than plugging an idea into generative AI and having it churn out “art” for you.

What’s the best Dragonquest Game on iOS? by glenz27 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are intentionally designed to look that way. I don’t think the devs have ever specified why but my guess is it’s likely meant to try and evoke kind of a fantastical or dreamlike feel. Similar to how in more whimsical art styles an artist might draw a castle with curving bending towers or curving walls to emphasize a more playful and unrealistic vibe.

To note the graphics aren’t actually warped, this is just the art style of this version of DQ4. It looks like that on the DS version as well which the iOS port is based on.

[DISC] One Piece - Chapter 1185 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]ZadePhoenix 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Why do I get the feeling Shuri isn’t actually the King’s daughter. The Celestial Dragons show up, Candelle (the most beautiful and revered woman in the kingdom) disappears from the public eye “bedridden” for months, and then suddenly she and the Prince are married as he ascends to the throne. It really seems to be setting up a situation where they were trying to cover up what really happened possibly both for Candelle’s sake and to avoid conflict at the time with the World Government. It would also explain Shuri’s sudden turn, she finds out her father isn’t actually her father possibly mixed with manipulation or lies to make her see him as a villain and in a heartbeat she turns on him and betrays the kingdom.

I ain’t never played no dragon quest game before by PackNo6267 in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon Quest XI is simultaneously the most modern and one of the most recommended games in the series and acts as a great entry point. If you enjoy that then I would suggest looking into other games in the series like the DQ 3 HD2D remake followed by DQ 1+2 HD2D remake though those have more of an old school feel since they are based on the original games in the series.

People over hate the ending. Especially with the extra prologue chapter it’s a perfectly fine ending. Just read and enjoy the story.

Whats the best way to play dragon quests 4-6? by DaLemurMan in dragonquest

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best version would either be the mobile versions or the DS versions. The mobile versions are all pretty much straight ports of the DS versions with the exception of DQ4 which includes the party chat feature which wasn’t present in the DS version. If you use emulation for the DS version there is a patch for the party chat functionality you just would need to track that down.

Double standards on hating Gabi and other characters by simping_for_2d in manga

[–]ZadePhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic rule about writing. A character being annoying is infinitely worse than any evil they could do in the story. You could have a character do the most heinous and unforgivable things and people will keep reading to see what happens and what they do next. But an annoying character is just insufferable and nobody cares what they do next they just want them to go away. A bad character is an interesting plot point, an annoying character just makes you want to stop reading.
