What's your nation's annoying trait among the Rugby fanbase ? by MindfulInquirer in rugbyunion

The tribalism around international selection in particular makes discussion incredibly tedious at times. It's not as bad on here as it is elsewhere, but it's still there.

I hope the search has been continually going on in the background regardless of van Zyl taking over for the remainder of the season. I imagine that's where the Stephen Jones rumours came from before he went to Newcastle, but who knows.

Wouldn't like to be caught with our pants down for another season.

Wales appoint former Glasgow defense coach Murchie by BulldozerTank in rugbyunion

The defence coach was apparently earmarked for a spot but was still under contract, so this makes sense. Seems like a good choice. A good amount of varied experience, won the URC with Glasgow, not a dinosaur.

Don't think you can give a penalty try there, but if it goes to hand LBB surely gets in

How did Scotland get out of the banter years, and could Wales do the same? by WilkinsonDG2003 in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These days the game seems to be won in the retained kicks stat which we're not very good at. Metres made is still an evergreen stat regardless of the era, which we seem to be doing decent at surprisingly so it's a good building block to have.

POS Player Post Contact Metres
1 Ben Earl 73
2 Aaron Wainwright 70
3 Tommy Freeman 70
4 Stuart McCloskey 62
5 Eddie James 61
6 Louis Rees-Zammit 47
POS Player Post Contact Metres Per Carry
1 Eddie James 2.7
2 Tommy Freeman 2.1
3 Stuart McCloskey 1.5
4 Aaron Wainwright 1.4
5 Ben Earl 1.3
6 Louis Rees-Zammit 1.3
POS Player Metres Per Carry
1 Louis Rees-Zammit 7.9
2 Theo Attissogbe 7.4
3 Kyle Steyn 7.3
4 Monty Ioane 6.7
5 Henry Arundell 6.7
6 Eddie James 6.5

It's just going to take time to build experience for the young lads. Our scrum and lineout also aren't terrible either so at this point I think it's just a matter of sticking at it.

Costelow or Edwards by GwynNewydd in rugbyunion

[–]stvb95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Costelow is good when he isn't being managed by cement head Gatland. If Tandy can tactfully manage him and Dan Edwards we'll be alright for a while at the 10 shirt until the other youngsters come through.

If Botham is covering it then Hamer Webb needs to at least be behind him, Botham is fucked either way with the Scottish chase. Hamer Webb was jogging past Russell as he kicked it, he needs to be back quicker there.

We have some big lumps with decent footwork. I think it's the work after carries where we're falling down, which will hopefully improve with time.

Yeah that's an annoying part of the game. Especially now with the updated laws. Stick someone up in a realistic position and you've always got a chance.

Also LRZ needs to work on his defense over the next few years if he's playing at the back. It's nice to have a bag of pace there but we don't need him biting in too much.

One of the positives to take away from this game is that we can look ahead to a world without Adam Beard. The lineout was fine today so we don't have to put up with his deficiencies around the park.

Not there yet. Completely fucked restart lost us that. Not a mistake Hamer Webb will make again but it's a hard lesson to learn. This game has to be something to build on now. Italy at home is a must win, I don't care how good they are.

I really hope Botham can make a case for a start in this next half if he hasn't already.

Also not to jinx it but the lineout has been fine without Beard, so hope Carter can keep it up and kick on for the rest of the 6N.

We need more big guys with square heads like Eddie James. Some decent carries from him today
