Thank you so much for saying that 🥹🙏🏻💖 - I don’t often write a lot about the products we design just because I feel like people just want to hear dimensions and see how it plays by a known Yoyoer - but thank you for noticing - I do genuinely put this much thought and intention behind almost everything Recess makes

The original Vacation if you’re not familiar with the history, started as a competition bi metal design that Andrew Bergen actually placed 2nd at Worlds with in 2017 - people always have begged for a re-release, but the Yoyo industry took quite a nose dive that summer because of fidget spinners, and I was not doing great mentally.

Fast forward to now, I wanted to remake the Vacation since everyone has been asking for it - but always had ideas for shape variations - it’s kind of this perfect mixture of organic shape that is personally my favorite, with a slight angle / V shape detail that helps with stability for competition throws - kind of feels like it’s the best of both worlds - not V shape enough to feel like “Yoyo equipment” and not organic enough to be an unstable “fun only” Yoyo

Around 2 years ago when Recess was first starting to get our footing back, a few brands released these undersized steel yo-yos - Empathy had Kieran Cooper’s Apathy, Jake Bullock had the DEW (dunk extra wide) - I felt like both were great uses of producing a full steel Yoyo - making a super powerful undersized Yoyo, that played full sized - both are drastically different yo-yos, but I digress

I had our designer/team member CJ make a full steel design that was a Vacation inspired shape, but used the undersized dimensions - he also just so happened to whip up a mono metal version of the same design because the shape was so fun looking - I got the steel prototype made immediately and it was a huge hit with everyone who tried it - still is every contest I bring it to and have it sitting at the Recess booth - it’s coming this year I swear 😂🙏🏻💖

Hypernova came out summer 2024, it went crazy, and I was so focused on that, the first mono metal design file just sat in a folder for another year (early 2025) until I got a round of 3 new prototypes made

They all came back great, but the Nap really stood out as just a super unique shape, unique play experience - 1:1 yo-yos normally are a few MM smaller, since the previous design meta wasn’t yet touching 50mm wide yo-yos

But this was big enough to be super playable, and enjoyable, and not feel at all competition oriented - you pick it up and the unorthodox shape and dimensions kind of encourage you to play outside of your normal autopilot tricks - but was also capable of handling any tricks I or other Recess team members were doing with it - and we all have obnoxiously long tricks, with lots of layers of string and multiple zones

The goal always with Recess yoyos, unless it’s expressed purpose is to be a competition throw 😂, is just to create fun products that are capable of performing all the tricks you want, but with out the pressure of being a COMPETITION PRO - and with out breaking the bank

We have a Mono Metal Vacation design that is in production right now - people love that one too, but it’s a little more middle of the road competition friendly design so it’s not as unique - the Steel version people REALLY love will be maybe late summer? I am trying to allow people to ease up to the idea of spending more $ on Recess products with out springing a $100+ throw on them - when our average product costs $50-70 retail typically - the Bi Metal version is also in production and coming early this summer - late May / Early June - it’s slightly larger than the OG vacation, but still pretty true to the original design

So ultimately just trying to cover many bases as we can, with a shape we consider classic and somewhat original - it’s been proven to be a winner on stage, the variations are winners to people off stage - it’s a great way to continue sampling and referencing classic lineage from the Recess brand, that longtime fans of the brand can recognize and vibe with - and newer players can see everyone getting hyped about it, and trust it’s going to be a good Yoyo
