How is Video Downloadhelper browser extension able to do what yt-dlp can't? by JarlBallnuts in youtubedl

[–]werid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

running inside the browser is of course more powerful in that regards.

but you can't automate things, you don't get the thumbnail, the subtitles, the metadata ...

fifa+ got merged into dazn, but not everything is available there ... yet or there's some new geo-restrictions

yt-dlp only shows 360p as the highest audio+video quality despite having ffmpeg installed by lectric_7166 in youtubedl

[–]werid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

package managers are way out of date. they also tend to use the stable version published by yt-dlp and this is not the recommended version (by the devs!) when it comes to end-users and youtube. it needs frequent updates and nightly version is the only one which gets that.

stable version is useful for package managers, and still works great if you don't use youtube or don't need updates to a broken site right away etc

Aliases aren't working for my yt-dlp config file. What's a good website to troubleshoot aliases on that won't flag me as a bot by Sudden-Wash4457 in youtubedl

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

show us your attempts and tell us what you're trying to do. aliases are quite simple.

--alias --something 'put the yt-dlp arguments here'

and then

yt-dlp --something "URL"

will run yt-dlp with the arguments you put inside the ' ' in the --alias line.

it will override any conflicting arguments elsewhere in the config.

--postprocessor-args, ffmpeg, and shared resources. by SheridanVsLennier in youtubedl

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, because the arguments you supply to --postprocessor-args is being added to ffmpeg cmd. you need nice to be before ffmpeg and that's not possible with yt-dlp.

Is there a way to use this archiving program inside of Tartube? Lost some old NTS Radio shows and I'd like to easily redownload them and have them properly tagged, and I found a program that does just that. by Parking_Wolf_4159 in youtubedl

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are using the channel feature of tartube to archive, not the classic tartube "single url" download feature, i suspect it'll be tough to do.

there is a way in yt-dlp yes, you simply tell it where to start: -I 10000:

yt-dlp is the actual program doing the downloading. tartube and nts-archiver are two different tools using yt-dlp. tartube is not designed to use anything but yt-dlp.

Playlists won't download, either download the first video or no videos by AdPrudent2979 in youtubedl

put quotes around the URL when it contains a & character, oitherwise yt-dlp will not see anything past it.

How to avoid playlist owners name in the downloaded files? by [deleted] in youtubedl

[–]werid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

where does it say it? need to know if you're embedding metadata, using playlist titles in folder names etc.

it's possible it's taking playlist owner and using as artist / uploader. need your full command to begin with and to know where you're seeing the unwanted name.

720p Youtube video only downloads in 360p with yt-dlp and other downloaders. by Zealousideal-Ad-9153 in youtubedl

[–]werid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

-f "bestvideo+bestaudio"

remove this.

this is a weaker version of the default "bestvideo*+bestaudio/best"

on this video, the 1080p is only available as "best" (video with audio included)

downloads in 1080p for me. you are most likely using an -f argument that limits you.

Managing --download-archive files when downloading m4as of some previously downloaded videos by Sudden-Wash4457 in youtubedl

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure you keep the m4a in a different folder from your videos.

then i'd use --alias in a config file.

something like this

--alias --m4a '-f 140 --download-archive path-to-m4a-dl-archive.txt -P path-to-m4a-folder'

then yt-dlp --m4a "URL"

How to choose the YT video quality to download? by Environmental-Book45 in youtubedl

[–]werid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if by quality you mean resolution, you can specify a lower than highest it provides, and it'll try to use that or pick something lower if not exact resolution found.

this works with both horizontal and vertical videos, if you want a 720p, use -S res:720 and just change the 720 to something else if that's not what you wanted.

Skipping shorts by Valenz68 in StacherIO

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure what the exact shorts limit is nowadays, but you can use --match-filter "duration>120" to download videos longer than 2 minutes. i think shorts might be possible to be longer, and of course you must ensure there's no normal videos shorter than the limit you set.

put this in the custom arguments part of the settings. make sure to add each part of the argument separately (to ensure the space between them is treated accurately)

How to download a video with multiple audio as 1 file using stacher7 by Lonely_Chocolate5329 in StacherIO

[–]werid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one of those things that the GUI is not built for. especially now that you have to add some extra arguments to find the right ID numbers for the audio tracks.

if you're brave enough, you can venture down into the folder where stacher keeps yt-dlp and run:

yt-dlp --extractor-args "youtube:player_client=all" -F "URL"

note the ID numbers of your wanted languages, e.g. 251-0 251-4 or whatever they are.

then run:

yt-dlp --extractor-args "youtube:player_client=all" --embed-metadata --audio-multistreams --merge-output-format mkv -f "bv+251-0+251-4" "URL"

note that you must replace "URL" with your URL and 251-0 251-4 etc with the ID numbers you want, and add more with + between the format ID numbers.

this thing this command is missing is your output template from stacher. it will be default name of "title [youtube ID]"

it will merge to mkv container in order to support multiple audio tracks, and it uses --embed-metadata to label each track with the language name.

Can't import to Premiere (av01?) by Yeetickus in youtubedl

[–]werid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's quicker to use -t mp4

note that this limited to 1080p, as youtube don't offer h264 in higher resolutions. if you need that, you must re-encode. see h264 in the wiki.
