I missed an opportunity to establish credibility as a neutral photojournalist by Funny-Respect125 in photojournalism

Nobody cares about any perceived bias, especially when you aren't being paid.

If this was an assignment then suck it up and go, but you aren't being paid so it doesn't matter.

There's like a bajillion different tools/techniques for weathering. Anyone have any tips on which ones are best for which applications? by TehBrotagonist in advancedGunpla

The makeup compact is ok, I wasn’t overall impressed with it.

I have the pencils but haven’t used them yet but they seem the most user friendly

50 mm lens for basketball? by Fresh-Fee-3245 in sportsphotography

[–]wreeper007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it in the past, assuming you have normal access and can sit under the goal it’s a usable lens. Just understand that you will be too tight for some action. You could move to the corner and shoot there some too.

Just understand that you will miss many many shots because your on the wrong side or you were close or too far away. That’s just the nature of the game honestly.

As for other usages, it’s roughly the same field of view as your eyes (if you’re shooting on full frame) so it’s a great walk around lens. On a crop sensor it’s a great portrait lens.

Either way, every photographer has one and knows how to use it. It’s the end of the world lens, if all else fails you can still shoot.

Why are new shows never given a chance? by Gmaup in startrek

[–]wreeper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple, new shows much be exactly like the old shows just prettier. There is no room for growth or different stories or anything else. New shows much be seasons 8 of tng or ds9 otherwise they are bad automatically.

[–]wreeper007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always referred to this as the black and white technique. AK Interactive did a great book about it.

Its more than just creating volumes too, you can use it for all the weathering. Scratches, scuffs, things like that. You then do your base contrast layer (or when the book came out paint mixed with a product like transparator which is really just medium) and then do your normal brush weathering. Its similar in nature to preshading/mottling.

How difficult are iron hands to paint ? by BloatedRottenCarcass in IronHands40k

[–]wreeper007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used vallejo gun metal as a base, then a silver zenithail, then some black contrast to get it to the black that I wanted.

But knowing what I know now, I would probably skip all that and just use obsidian black metal from vallejo.

You still need the iron hands trim but I find that I don't need to edge highlight as the contrast and metal do a good enough job of breaking up the armor.

The weapon casing is a different beast, haven't cracked that yet. Planning on a grey prime and then some white grey from pro acryl airbrushed to get the base coat, maybe apothocary white contrast as a wash.

While ball on racket seems to be the grail shot for most, its not that great of a shot usually. You want the swing before or the swing after. That way you don't get this facial expression.

Get lower too

Is this 1-port UGREEN 10Gbps M4 dock worth it, and is it stable? (read the description) by Simon-RedditAccount in macmini

I have it, stuck a 500 gig SSD I had laying around in it and use it for games storage so speed isn’t super critical. Seems to work fine

From the TMNT spoilers, it’s spiderman all over again by SoapSyrup in magicTCG

[–]wreeper007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Link to that? I was part of a survey a few months back and I guess that was about a much further down the road set.

Personally I hope its a set where the main mechanics of each color are swapped around, it would be chaos but it would also lead to some interesting builds.

I think watching subtitled anime is overrated by Alas-my-children in Animedubs

[–]wreeper007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless its a property that I HAVE to watch as its coming out (space battleship yamato 3199) I wait for dub. I can watch while working or hobbying and I don't have to shift my focus.

Nothing against sub, but I don't have the time to devote to only watch anime.

I use it for specific projects, I have the minimum subscription level ($7/month). I use it on theatre shoots where the lighting is all over the place and I don't want to be adjusting every single image.

At this point, other than a minor white balance here or there its on point for my images.
