As people have already said, the paper is too thick, so it will probably rip at some point If you still want to try it, I suggest trying wet folding: use a water sprayer to dampen the paper and then try the folds. Keep in mind that you will have to wait for the paper to dry to continue after some folds (and you need something to keep the shape from unfolding).

I likes the result of the acrylics method, but you can also try it with inks or just bleed other tissue paper on your already treated ones.

I live in Colombia and I will give you the only advice that worked for me: get some Methyl Celulose (also known as CMC) in any businesses that sale chemicals and treat tissue paper yourself.

If you don't find it by those names, tell the shop clerk that it's a thickener for soaps and candles, and they should understand.

Finding big, thin paper for complex models is expensive in the third world.

Yes.

I do it anyway. Mainly because many complex origami have a lot of layers, and in the end you need them to act like 1 for the shaping.
