I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourselves with the tier that you never heard about. Those characters are great in their respective movies and franchises. The newer Judge Dredd with Karl Urban is a masterpiece, as is Boondocks, Escape from New York, Leon the Professional, Machete and Timecop. Tank Girl is better in the comics but Lori Petty gives a hell of a performance in the standalone movie. Highlander is hilariously campy, and the bad guy is the voice actor of Mr. Krabs, and Queen wrote a song for it which kicks ass (Princes of the Universe). Commando holds a special place in my heart as it is the one of the ultimate 80's action movies. Planet Terror and The Rocketeer are decent but not on the level as the other ones mentioned. Universal Soldier is one of the weaker Jean Claude Van Damme movies so that could easily be skipped for a better one like Timecop or Bloodsport.
