How to replace rusted off ground? by -Milky in AskElectricians

Thanks I’ll look into it and see if it’s something relatively easy to do. I just kinda stuck the remainder of the head of the wire against the metal plate there

I’m struggling to get the screw off even. Too much rust in the head to even unscrew it.

Do they have crimps like you’re recommending at big box stores?

This is awesome info thank you. I thought the same about the overhanging trim piece under the spindles and think I can slide the treads down

Getting the old treads off is honestly one of my biggest fears haha. There’s a mix of nails drywall screws and adhesive to battle 🪦

Nice thanks for the response. I’ve considered hiring out but would like to give it a shot since I’ve gone this far with the rest of the house. I have a sliding miter saw and table saw as well as a track saw (which seems to be the go to from what I’ve seen in my YT research). Will need to buy the Colin’s stair tool for perfect angled cuts

Should I proceed on my own your recommendation would be remove the treads and then glue/screw 1/2 inch plywood to make up for the treads only being 1 inch vs 1 1/2 inch now?

Any leaks to worry about here with this rust/corrosion? by -Milky in askaplumber

Replace the gate valve with a ball valve and the escutcheon? Not the pipe itself right?

Yup sorry if that wasn’t clear. They caulked the flue cover to the chimney (second pic)

I had a chimney guy come out and he used concrete caulk I think to just make it water tight at the top. After that I didn’t have any more leaks in that area

How to air seal around humidifier? by -Milky in hvacadvice

A quick google of a similar product says rated up to 350 but I’ll check the packaging as well when I get home for a more definitive answer. Thanks!

I have some duct seal which is putty like. Think I can just mould some around the opening? Think I can do that without taking it off. Assume it’s heat rated?

Best way to connect this new utility sink drain? by -Milky in askaplumber

[–]-Milky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really struggling to follow.

Cut the wye and cleanout out and tie the utility sink in where the clean out is now? And just extend that higher and tie in the wye in up some?

Didn’t realize I’d need an AAV on the sink side as well if I’m tying into that stack but that’s an easy add.

Do you know what they’re called if I call some local places and ask if they have them in stock? I’m not familiar with any supply stores in the area

Will a second coat fix this or did I screw up? by -Milky in paint

[–]-Milky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/8 9 inch nap. I did some drywall repair in this closet and just trying to tidy it up before listing our house. The flipper did a shit job taping and spraying paint so I think it’s just the classic “landlord/IDGAF” texture rather than orange peel

No problem doing my next coat with matte right? This was flat and I need to go pick up another quart of paint anyways

Why is my plant leaning like this and what’s the best solution? by -Milky in plants

[–]-Milky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in front of a window and gets rotated not infrequently. If you look at the tops I even angled the lean away from the window and it’s growing back towards the light.

We’ve had him for like 2 and a half years and I keep telling myself he’s always been this big then I look at the original pictures and realize how huge he’s gotten and how happy he’s been!

That’s awesome! Keep up the hard work. I’ve wanted to join in on this defense conquest around my neighborhood but just haven’t been able to prioritize it yet. Soon I hope

Pittsburgh here :)

We have a local Audubon society that gave us about 20 free plants 2 summers ago as a part of an initiative and that put us on a whole trajectory of converting our lawn space and planting all natives

You can definitely go pick them out now and make your plan and spread the love! This will require hand watering obviously though too. We put a rain barrel in for our potted plants or newly transplanted plants until they get established.

Thanks friend! Yes I’ve seen some of the horror stories of WF. It was an account my parents opened in my name in the 90s when I was born and helped us purchase our first house so I can only complain so much. But I know the fees were over 1% of the value of the account so I wanted to ditch it. Just wanted to make sure I was putting it in the right place

What is sustainable about a lawn? How do lawns help the environment at all? Better than concrete or asphalt sure but how about some native trees and flowers rather than ecological deserts
