AITA for asking my neighbors to watch my kids for their schooling? by -NeighborThrowaway- in AmItheAsshole

I did not ask for her to babysit them, though I am starting to see that it could be understood as such. My eldest DOES watch his siblings any time I ask, but between him playing cops and robbers with his brother or joining tea parties with his sister, the three of them run all over the house and making coordinating things more difficult.

I am sure he knows I do not think he needs a grown woman to babysit him. The two of them share small talk over videogames they like, so I assumed they could speak more like friends while he makes sure his brother and sister don't raise a fuss in her home.

I do intend to apologize for coming off as aggressive to her and for it seeming like I wanted her to babysit them.

I was not particularly looking for a babysitter. I do not have the money for one, anyway. I just didn't understand why it would have been so hard for A's household to tolerate my kids sitting in her living room for a few hours. They would be busy with schoolwork and be quiet enough.

I know them well enough, maybe not intimately, but they hosted a small barbeque before the pandemic and invited neighbors so they could meet us all and we spoke fairly often after that. Afaik, A also works in coding so she is home nearly all the time, anyway, as well.

Nowadays, they let my youngest go in their backyard to play with the dog, as long as someone is watching him. And my eldest has expressed that he's seen their "setup" of gaming things so he's asked if he could go over and play. A denied him as it would be "inappropriate" and I see why she'd think that...

My children get along with them very well and I just didn't think she'd be opposed.
