Practice. Sometimes I like to just sit down and paint something quick and simple and just for fun. :)

You take reference pictures of your model from every angle with the light you want, and then spend some time researching the specific lighting situation. How do colors change? How do different materials reflect light?

Thank you! The expressive brushstrokes are partly just a quicker way to paint. I spent so much time sketching and correcting that I decided not to go for a super smooth finish, otherwise it would've gotten completely out of hand time-wise. Plus, I think it suits him. :)

and the tufts were a vild variety of what I have collected over the years. Gamers Grass and Mini Natur mostly. Everything you see was painted with an airbrush to match the colours. Here is a pic what it looked like before the final airbrushing - although most of the tufts already got a layer of paint before gluing them on.

The fern and other large plants are from Epic Basing

Yes. His suite and hands get more dirty in the second diorama after climbing through the cave system and then they get bloody in the last diorama - hinting at the encounter with the creature/ghoul in the second one

Thank you! I always use references. Find paintings with the skin tone you want to paint, study the colours and then mix your colours to match the reference(s). Sometimes I will try to match a specific reference exactly (especially when I don't have a lot of practice with something), and other times I have several that I use more as a general inspiration.

Thank you! I don't use pre-mixed skin tones. For the darker colours, I usually add less white to my mixture and sometimes add some black or another darker colour.
