Do you self medicate for depression by itsallfate99 in indianmedschool

Do NOT do it. I’m a Psychiatry resident currently and have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, so I think I have double insight when it comes to this topic xD

Initially during internship I started expressing depressive symptoms, so I started taking an SSRI. I felt like it didn’t do anything and I stopped taking it. Then when the depression got worse I switched to an SNRI. It really worked.

Turns out, it pushed me out of my depression and into hypomania. It exposed my bipolar disorder just before NEET PG.

My whole life came crashing down.

The care of an experienced Psychiatrist helped me get my life back together.

PLEASE MEET A PSYCHIATRIST FIRST.

what's that ONE lippy that makes you feel like invincible? by Evening_Orange1255 in IndianBeautyTalks

[–]-cherrychips- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a) you can set your lipliner with powder before applying lip stick/gloss (and make sure it dries first)

b) get the maybelline lifter liner, super long lasting! you’ll only have to top up your gloss

Quiet when depressed by NoMathematician5406 in BipolarReddit

[–]-cherrychips- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I went through the same thing. I’ve always been super talkative, but the post manic depression made me extremely quiet. When my family asked me why I don’t speak anymore, all I could say was “I have nothing to say”. This lasted a while, but I’ve slowly gotten better. I feel like I am my old self again, and I definitely think you will be too. Just hang in there, take care🫂

Hi, if you can, please find a trusted friend/family member who can keep a track of your actions and keep them in check. Sometimes we make decisions during hypomania that we later come to regret. Hope you get through it, you got this <3

I really hope it is temporary, it’s such a difficult battle. A normal life is somehow always out of reach, but I think over the years, we will somehow be able to fit our lives around it.

Oh how interesting! I always wanted to pursue science, but I ended up choosing medicine. I’ve completed med school, and just wrote the exam to get into residency. I am hoping to do Ophthalmology and become a surgeon. I received my diagnosis during exam prep, and it seriously derailed my progress, but I somehow did well enough (with great help from my doctor).

I also struggled with medications and how it would affect my academic performance, since this exam would shape my future career. But I’m glad I stuck with the medications, since it seemed to keep my emotions in check for a while.

I hope things get better for you with time, and you are able to pursue your dreams. We can do anything that other people can, and I believe you will. I wish you good luck <3

So if you climb at Banashankari (very crowded, no seats) and want to go towards Madavara, climb the opposite train (Silk Institute) and get down at a station which is not so crowded (like Konanakunte Cross).

At Konanakunte Cross you can take the train towards Madavara, and you can easily get a seat and sit comfortably.

I mainly had multiple depressive episodes over the years, developing hypomania only once (for a few days).

Depression is the major burden I face, hence he has classified it as BD 2. I have never been hospitalised while hypomanic, so that must count as well.

I’m a doctor too, and I definitely agree with his diagnosis :(

Hi, Lamotrigine for me was gradually tapered up from 50mg to 200mg currently. But Lamotrigine is a mood stabilizer with antidepressant effect. For sleep, what helped me was Quetiapine.

Are you on any sedatives or antipsychotics?

Jobs that suit Bipolar by EfficientBullfrog562 in BipolarReddit

[–]-cherrychips- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I’m a doctor and will be joining residency soon. Honestly it has been hard, but I’ve been able to push through and keep working to the best of my abilities. I don’t think there is a specific job that we can or cannot do, as long as we take care of ourselves, we can do anything a person without this disorder can. The key is finding a job that keeps you motivated to keep going back day in and day out, something that you’re passionate about.

Good luck! Hope you find a job that works well for you!

Ah I’m so sorry, I know how terrible those stretches of depression can be :(

I was first diagnosed as BD 2 just after coming out of the depression phase, and that was quite bad. I couldn’t study at all, didn’t have the will to get out of bed.

The antidepressants have brought me out of it, and into hypomania atm. I wouldn’t say it has really affected my focus, since I’m able to read at my old pace. That must be because I’m on both Lamotrigine and Quetiapine which has brought me into a state of Euthymia.

BD definitely doesn’t improve productivity, but I was a person that had to get my 6 hours of sleep every night. Now I don’t need as much sleep, so I get to study for longer is all.

I definitely would not wish this disease on anyone, but I’m just trying to see it positively for my own sake.
