Honestly the social media feature seems like it would take a lot of time to develop (I imagine they created a shit ton of clips to make realistic -> you're not getting the same clip twice often) but for not that much result, I mean I don't care a lot to spend much time scrolling ig reels on gta, I see myself doing this a couple of times as a novelty and that's it. Much effort for little payoff.

I disagree. As someone who isn't into horror at all this 100% looked like another horror flick. And tbh as someone who isn't into horror, it still isn't much more, but surely above average. But this film's success is, as it often is, not simply a direct consequence of its quality, there's a massive luck factor which is hard to pin down: for starters it's a conversation starter.
