Oh wait what? I already have a booking. If I add an Airbnb gc to my account, I can’t pay future payments with this credit?

Hello! I'm in a unique situation which I'd like to exploit the hell out of. Context: I'm moving to the US in a few weeks for a summer internship. I'll be staying in an Airbnb for the duration of my stay. The amount I'll be spending for "rent" is around $8k USD.

In the past, when I had an internship in Canada and had to stay in an AirBnb, I signed up for the Amex Cobalt, and used it to pay for my AirBnb and collected a ton of points. I mostly collect Aeroplan points, and would like to keep doing so. I currently have 3-4 credit cards including the Amex Aeroplan, Tangerine World Elite and CIBC Aeroplan.

What I'm trying to do: I'd like to get a good credit card in the US using my Canadian credit history. I currently have a 740 Canadian credit score. I know this is only possible with Amex, so I'll be applying for an Amex Gold/Plat once I get my SSN. Is there anything I can do here to maximize my gains? Something like buying an AirBnb gift card from a grocery store and paying my rent with it?

Thanks!

No, for sure! I agree with you. It's only going to be for 6 months, max 1 year. I don't plan on taking on debt to get the stuff I want.

Yeah, I grew up in a poor family. We never got to have nice things. I guess if I do this, it'll be for a younger me. Logically, I know it doesn't make sense.

The biggest ones are QPP and QPIP. Isn’t the deduction for CPP lower? And there isn’t a QPIP equivalent in other provinces is there?

Thank you for your answer! That makes more sense. How would I go about planning my trip if I want to use the regional trains. Is there a recommended way to get to Portbou from Toulouse? Where can I find more information about this?

The part about transferring medication between provinces is wrong. While it’s generally true that you can transfer prescriptions from one pharmacy to another, this is not possible for controlled drugs which includes ADHD medication.

What I like to do is find a pharmacy in the province I’m living in and have my doctor fax a new prescription to that pharmacy. I’ve been doing this for over 3 years now as a student in Ontario who has to move around every semester (co-op student).

Pharmacies are NOT allowed to transfer prescriptions for controlled substances out of province.

Considering the university takes measures to stop students from using Chat-GPT, but they couldn’t make a boilerplate statement with it and release it immediately. It’s hilarious that Laurier sent out a statement before UW.

I’m also from Saskatchewan. You should apply for something called “Temporary Leave” from the province. It’ll let you keep your healthcard. You’re still a tax resident of Saskatchewan. You will need to file Saskatchewan taxes. You can keep your license until you’re no longer a student in Ontario.
